He could have easily had a chance for over 80 had he actually been pitched to.
When Bonds broke the record, rarely was he intentionally walked.
Pujols is amazing, but the opposing pitchers still have to throw at least in the area of the plate for him to really get the chance.
Watch for intentional walks if the Cards are in a close race later in the season.

and i dont see a reason why his pace should slow down. Unless he gets hurt i see no reason why he wouldnt bust bonds' HR record wide open.

Fixed.
But seriously... if he has 40+ by the halfway point of the season then we can start to talk about records. I still have to wonder if the guy is juiced. There are far too many substances out there like HGH which aren't tested by the MLB.

Indeed, people will learn and soon will stop pitching to him.

Its a pace he will unlikely be able to keep, particularly as the long season drags on. Also, he will get fewer and fewer good pitches to hit. Players generally play in streaks, even great ones like pujols, so don't expect every month to be like his historic april where's he's fresh from the off-season.
I would be a better against him breaking the record.
