I haven't been to the gym in about a month because I was sick for a couple weeks, then was really busy with school. So today I went, and near the end of my workout I was feeling nauseous and light-headed. I know this feeling: it's happened before. So I went to lie down on a mat, then finished up with some sit-ups. As I went on my way back to the locker room, I knew my stomach wasn't happy, so I ran the last few steps to the bathroom and barely made it to a stall, where I met my lunch again.
This always happens when I do an intense workout after a period of inactivity. Does anyone know why this happens? Do I just have to take my workouts slower when I've been inactive, or is my body just shocked by the sudden burst of exercise? I'd be interested in the anatomical reason for why this happens, but I'd also like to know how to avoid it.
