I'm glad he got a ticket. I can't tell you how much time I wasted driving from Portland to Sacramento sitting behind idiots because they were going .0015 mph faster than the vehicle they were "passing". And not even uphill.

If you're going the exact speed limit, GTFO of the left lane. Period.

Legally speaking the speed limit is the MAXIMUM you are permitted to go. His friend was in a dilemma-trying to pass a semi (which was probably going just under the speed limit) and knowing there was a cop behind him. Pass the truck at 65 mph and you are legal (except for the BS charge of impeding traffic, which is easily beaten in court as the only solution is to drive illegally fast) or exceed the speed limit and be subject to a ticket for sure.

BTW the cops in northern Ohio have been horrendous to out of state drivers for decades-just drive on the Ohio Turnpike with out of state plates three miles over the speed limit and you'll find out.

Any sane judge would throw that ticket. But the driver will still be harmed-the wack to his insurance rates for just receiving a ticket plus the expense of adding court (probably two or three times).

Weirdly enough, blacks had much more economic opportunity in the 60s than they do now. This trend gets worse and worse as each decade goes by. Currently there are McJobs and welfare, where there were once middle class factory jobs. The future looks incredibly bleak and foreboding.

Indeed...

Good for that cop. Driver shouldn't have been in the left lane to begin with! Most of the reason this is even a law is so that cars don't impede emergency and law enforcement vehicles.

So he should have broken the speed limit to pass the semi faster and then the cop wouldn't have pulled him over?

It's one thing if he's doing the same exact speed as the semi, that's impeding traffic and he needs to tap the brakes and get back behind the semi. Of course then he probably would have been ticketed for following to close or some shit. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely despise fuckers who hang out in the fast lane and don't GTFO the way but that's just a no win scenario and a guaranteed ticket to the cops quota.

This just proves what I've been saying for a while. A cop can pull over anyone they want whenever they want. It's impossible to be a perfect driver and not break any traffic laws for more than a few miles but of course this doesn't really happen because a few posters here have never had it happen to them. Just a coincidence that they are at least middle class (probably upper class considering everyone on ATOT makes over $100K) and white. To be honest I think it's just as much of a class thing as it is a race thing, people with means can at least sort of fight back via the legal system and not have to worry about having their financial lives ruined if it doesn't go their way.

Then you should tell your party to stop cheering the importation of millions of low skill workers thereby destroying the local job market.

Hahaha, good one. Oh how priceless, its so adorable that you believe something like that.

Excuse me, should have said "Shouldn't" not " can't" lol

but anyway it's a civil rights violation and people have won in court against that

I read that line above and assumed this happened in Ohio. Honestly, in this case, I would not assume racism. Its pretty well known in SE Michigan that if you have MI plates and are driving in OH you better watch what the fuck you are doing because Ohio cops love to pull over Michigan drivers for the tiniest reason. I have a friend who got a ticket for signaling too early and another friend who got one for 'impeding the flow of traffic' by driving the speed limit in the left lane but not passing a semi fast enough when a cop was behind him
uhm I didn't read that part, plates are more important than the drivers to create prejudices sometimes

I sincerely don't believe either party cares much for my opinion unless it comes with $100K or better campaign donation.

Even better, stay out of the left lane unless you're actually in the process of passing.

Also, when drunk drivers are out in force, the left-most lane of a highway is the most likely location of a drunk driver driving on the wrong side of the highway. Lifetip, if you will.

I get what you're saying and TOTALLY agree. I can't stand a-holes in the left lane who speed-match the slow-ass in the right lane. That said, it is a TOTALLY different game when you are passing and you suddenly get a cop on your ass. You are instantly placed in a no-win situation. You've now got 2 bad choices:

1) Speed up to get around the truck faster in order to be nice and let the cop go. The cop then pulls you over and tickets you for speeding and gives you a lecture about how illegal and unsafe it is to speed in order to pass. While he completely ignores the safety issues with him tailgating.

2) DON'T break the speed limit, causing you to pass the truck too slowly. The cop then pulls you over and tickets you for NOT speeding and gives you a bullshit lecture about how emergency vehicles can't get around you or some other stupid shit that never even happened. While he completely ignores the safety issues with him tailgating.

Either way, you are screwed. How SHOULD he handle this?

I'm fairly certain that emergency and law enforcement vehicles were NOT on the way to an emergency in this situation. Evidence: the cop thought that taking the time to pull this guy over a write a ticket was more important than getting to where the cop was going. Conclusion: there was no emergency more important that writing a ticket for not speeding.

I'm also fairly certain that this guy would have found a way to get out of the way if there was an emergency vehicle coming up behind him with lights and sirens blaring. That motivates lots of people to speed up and pass to get out of the way. Nobody is afraid of getting a ticket written by someone speeding to an emergency.
