Here's my advice from my many all-nighter experiences...
MUST HAVES:
Music, but nothing TOO distracting. Only you know what will distract you. Getting some new cds helps it out, as you don't know the lyrics to anything yet and it won't distract you as much.
Coffee
Soda
Snack food, but nothing too sugary or high on the glycemic index... this just makes you jittery and unable to think straight.
Likewise, nothing too filling or bloaty, as this makes you want to take a nap.
Also, make sure to not have to cook anything (not counting microwave). Spending time preparing snack food changes your mindset and leads to needing 10 minutes or so to get back into the swing of things.
1. DO NOT allow yourself to lay down or take a 20-minute nap or ANYTHING until at least 7am, or you are done with your work. This just leads to taking more 20 minute naps, wasting valuable production time. Even taking 1 nap lets your mind slip, and makes you take 10 minutes or so to get back into "work mode", not to mention the nap makes you drowsy and intensifies the need to take another nap.
2. Under NO circumstances get comfy. Make a point to purposely be uncomfortable. Getting too comfy inherently leads to drowsiness/sleepiness. That means NO comfy blankets, sleep clothes, hoodies, comfy couches, etc. Trust me on this one. If you break rule #2, it will inevitably lead to breaking rule #1.
That's all I can think of right now, as its been a couple of months since I've had to pull a all-nighter. It used to be a once a week thing for me.
