So....how much money changes hands in an acquisition like this?
Or 1 billion ponies...

Thank you for keeping us updated and constantly answering questions. Looking forward to the thread.
Welcome John, I'm not sure if you've seen this thread? It would be nice to see your feedback regarding something we loathe.
I don't want to be "that guy". I don't want to be argumentative, cynical or seen as yelling "the sky is falling." That being said...
I am curious how Purch plans to make money on this deal? I mean, if nothing is changing at Anandtech, where do they see the extra profit coming from to justify the purchase?
I ask because when one company acquires another it is usually because the buyer has specific plans on how the purchased company will be used to make them money. It is only natural for the buyer to want a return on their investment.
In the vast history of company acquisitions I don't think those plans have ever been "no changes, business as usual". It just doesn't work that way.
Respectfully,
KeithP
That thread is going to be epic. Epic. Accusations will be made, screen shots will be presented, Wikipedia will be consulted, teeth will be gnashed and hands will be wrung. Nerd rage will rear it's ugly head and RBM's will slither out of the wood work. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse will thunder across our screens and the members will cry out for salvation.
And refill the lube dispensers. This forum would be disgusting if they didn't have a cleaning crew come in once a week to mop the floors. And walls. And ceilings.
I agree with this statement 100%.
Working for a small cozy consulting firm that was bought out by a giant global corporation. They said the exact same thing, almost word for word. Well, 6 years later and almost everything has changed.
So can we permaban alky now?
Are you going to add a ton of javascript to the site like Tom's?
+1 nice post.I miss the way things were in the forums 5-10 years ago, but I don't expect them to return unfortunately. The web is just so much bigger :-(
An aviation based website and forum I've been part of and loved since it was formed in the '90s by a Swedish professor was sold a few years ago to an awesome aviation buff, aircraft owner and pilot...not to mention the owner of a website management and ownership company (whatever that's called). He really cared personally about the site, and improved a TON of stuff. Things really looked up.
Shortly after, he and a friend crashed his high performance aerobatic aircraft and were killed :-(. The company still exists, and still owns the site, but now it's just another one of their holdings. Tons of issues that take forever to repair - if ever. More and more obtrusive ads - pop-ups etc. Very little to no co. presence in the forums. It's sad.
Please - care for and improve this site and forum as it deserves. I hope the reviews stay high quality. Anand did some awesome ones over the years.
his current ban might be a long one
Oh I'm still here and still EIC.Wow what they say is true, all good things must come to an end
I thought Ryan was taking over here and anandtech was on strong financial ground?
Oh I'm still here and still EIC.
And we were on solid financial ground. But our previous situation was limiting our ability to further grow the site and ultimately ensure we didn't have too many eggs in any one basket.

Thanks for chiming in Ryan! Good to know you're still EIC
Anandtech for me anyway was always a huge tech site with a sterling reputation for a very long time. News of Tom's Hardware taking over is a little disconcerting.
