The editorial teams exercise control over what they cover and how deep they cover it. Credibility isn't threatened by being part of the same parent company. The only major difference is that the AT team is going to have access to a greater number of resources now than it has in the past.

Oh, ok. I'll just take your word for that then.

Ugh, I seriously hop from tech forum to tech forum and thought I had found my happy place with Anandtech.

Left OCforums because of the mods banning everyone and it getting pretty boring.
Left Hardforums because the mods seemed like dicks and was tired of all the 15 year olds talking about "hookers and blow"
Now Anandtech is going to possibly suck? Say it ain't so!

"Purch’s industry-leading combination of high-quality content and integrated commerce experiences makes complex buying decisions easy for more than 100 million consumers and professionals monthly. With the acquisition of AnandTech, Purch furthers its mission to simplify purchase decisions for in-market tech consumers by adding one of the most popular computer components, hardware, and mobile reviews sites to a brand portfolio that already includes category heavyweight, Tom’s Hardware."

I don't need anyone to simplify my purchase decisions at all. I only want to read how the hardware works when tested or tested against other hardware of the same like. That's it. The rest is just marketing corporate speak to influence my buying decisions. That was not the original intent of this site or Tom's.

I appreciate their efforts. Every time I need to buy a new motherboard\cpu\memory combo I have to spend hours and hours reading through tons of threads and reviews trying to figure out which ones are best and which ones fit together. I much prefer just being able to select a budget and be told what the best thing to buy is.

It was nice while it lasted. At least I got over 15 years out of these forums.

The inevitable monetization of the forums will kill it. It will be a slow strangle of a death as it creeps in. No amount of smoothing over by a "community manager" can sway me away from that belief. A lot of us have been here a long time and observed the destruction of other communities. It will happen. Slowly, it will happen. There's no way around it.

I can respect this and have no problem with it. I however do not prefer this and use as many sites as I can to research the hardware I am about to purchase, since most all of them and now including this one, are biased enough to try to nudge a reader into buying one way or the other

Free HappyPuppy, FFMCobalt, PliableMoose, Dividedbyzero, Kirby, Nick1985, MotF Bane, Whoozyerdaddy, Bamacre, Red Dawn, ShinerBurke, Wanescotting, Loke !

I was wondering this, myself

And you forgot Mosh!

Also, does this mean an onslaught of intolerable trolls, with all of the new exposure?

Not surprised at all, I knew something like this would happen with ALS leaving for Apple. It was fun while it lasted and this site/forum will never be the same.

thanks. 95% of the reason why I go to Anandtech.com is because of DT.

You're not alone.

R.I.P the old Anandtech site we used to know, we learned a lot of things from here, a lot of deep tech articles that you can't find elsewhere, I enjoyed reading all the comments in DT news, hell I even learned most of my English language from you guys through the years.

Fucking sellouts. Everyone always says it's about integrity and principles, not about money. And they are always wrong. RIP.
It's all about money baby, all the things, all the wars, it's all about money.
The problem is, that Anand himself would have enjoyed some wealth from the transaction, but people who been posting since 2000 with 40K plus posts, would get nothing out of it, even they have spent a part of their life here on this forum. Thanks for your time guys, really.

That's really the key to our opinion on this. An awful lot of us have been here an awful long time and we've watched community after community dissolve and how it happened. It will happen here.

Sorry, I'm not one of you nerds who obediently follow around a female forum member wagging your tail and asking her how high when she says "Jump!"

GA and Gayner (or Gaynor, however you spell it; what happened to him?) were great for lulz.

Nick1985, WYD, and MoTF Bane should be unbanned however, along with those other guys.

No changes are planned to any of that.

Sharing of resources like time, money, people, contacts, networks and product - per request. Expecting that much to start with.

You seem unusually approachable and logical. I'm thinking you should probably appoint yourself as the new forum director/overlord here.

Does Purch employ any people named Anand?

Newp.

What kind of name is Purch anyways? meaning?

It's short for purchase. Also, I think the domain was available.

I don't need anyone to simplify my purchase decisions at all. I only want to read how the hardware works when tested or tested against other hardware of the same like.

That's actually how we simplify your purchase decisions. Having reporters and editors benchmark two pieces of hardware, disassemble them piece by piece and do the in-depth dive downs to show which is better and why is certainly the most effective way to simplify your purchase decision for that piece of tech. The inverse would be you just buying it, and then finding out its crap. Then there's the whole complex RMA process to deal with - it's really a hassle.

That's a rather dire prognostication!

Communities and the preservation and growth of communities are sacrosanct to me. I'm not here to smooth things over, I'm here to tell you how it is. There's no "inevitable monetization", no strangle and no slow death and destruction for this community. Though, if there's no level of reassurance I can offer along those lines that will sate you, can I at least ask you to hang out for a bit longer and see what does take place? Every community needs a Prophet of Doom to cozy the place up with added character, and the contrarian in me wants the opportunity to prove you quite wrong.

It's sad to witness the removal of DT from Anand's page
A lot of us never accessed Dailytech.com, but used to follow each and every news through AT's site.

THG has always catered and crafted their reviews to favor paid sponsors. Bias? No, there's no bias there at all!

Anand used to send $500.00 a month to all members who joined on or before May 2001, will this continue?
