Gears > Killzone, FM2/3 > GT4/5 (how the hell can you have a serious racing game with no damage modeling?), most games still look better on the xBox. The xBox controller is better.

Sure M$ is screwing you left and right with the 360. No wifi, smaller non (easily)replaceable HDDs, expensive proprietary cables, no high def (high capacity) disks. But if game playing is your main concern then the xBox is worth the extra $200.

Seriously, if I didn't have a game system now I would buy the PS3 easily over the 360. The 360 is way overpriced.

I agree, and I don't see where the love is coming from for the "new" Elite with the 250 GB drive. I mean, big deal. My understanding is that you can get a PS3 and install *any* SATA laptop drive in it with ease.

I do agree that the Xbox controller is better and up to now, most games have been better on the Xbox if they were dual platform games. EA is especially guilty of that, though I believe they are improving. In my case, I am primarily a sports gamer on the consoles and everything else is on my PC.

However, as I outlined in my previous post, I think the smart strategy for me is to just bite the bullet and get a PS3 and I'd just purchase any new game releases for it. Plus, the GoW series really interests me -- I have a PSP-1000 and bought GoW:Chains of Olympus and really liked it a lot.

What kinds of games do you play? Have you reviewed the platform exclusives for each console? Does Blu Ray interest you at all?

For me, I am a sports gamer and in that case, the PS3 now actually has a bigger selection of sports games than the 360, mainly because the PS3 has all of the EA and 2K sports games available plus an additional baseball (and I believe basketball) game. Plus with God of War coming out, the PS3 is looking really good in my opinion.

As you can tell from my posts in this thread, I own the Xbox 360 now but I hope to eventually transition to the PS3, as I am sick of dealing with hardware issues. The 360 is a great system while it works and it isn't the end of the world if you go have to get warranty work done on it; that being said, I have had 3 die and my patience has limits.

From a cost perspective, you just get more with the PS3 now, and it isn't even close IMO. Plus my understanding is that you can upgrade the PS3 hard drive using any standard SATA laptop drive, whereas with the 360, you basically have to buy Microsoft's overpriced drives to upgrade.

I like rpgs and platformers. I prefer fps on the pc. The one thing I want on the xbox 360 is fable 2. outside of that I have looked them over and both have exclusives I would want. ps3 may have a few more. My tv only does 720p so bluray won't give me a lot (though it would give me more than my standard player). So I dunno.

If i were you I'd go over that list and see if there are any "must-have" games for you on there, and then pick the one that has more of them. When I picked up my PS3 (the original 60gb w/ BC), it was a foregone conclusion for me, as there were quite a few exclusives that I know I'll definitely want to play, while for the x360 there just weren't any that qualified as must-have for me.

There's been a recent surge of very high quality PS3 exclusives (Uncharted 2, Demon's Souls, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2) so the title-war is starting to lean towards the PS3 now. One thing to note is the 360's exclusives are primarily fps games, and if you already own a PC, there are ton of high quality fps games on that platform. IMO, if you have a gaming PC, and you can only get ONE console, the PS3 might be a better choice.

This is good advice and was about what I was going to respond with as well.

Are you able to just get a PS3 and keep your Elite, or is that not an option?

I would have to get rid of it.

Well, to me, it boils down to how much you've already invested in the Xbox and its games and accessories, and whether you feel that you have "gotten your money's worth" and are ready to move on.

In my case, I have too many Xbox games (including many recent ones) that I think I need to play them much more before I feel I got my money's worth. So my plan would be to go ahead and get a PS3 and gradually migrate to it and the Xboxes would then be used primarily for Netflix and the occasional platform exclusive.

I don't really have anything for the 360. All i have is GTA4, Lost and the damned, BF1943 and Shadow Complex. All of them i rarely play. Im usually using it for streaming shows i download.

Why not use the PS3 for netflix too? I personally got rid of my 360 after the first time it died and traded up to the PS3. I haven't been disappointed nor have I ever missed having a 360.

I've already bought the Xbox, I might as well use it.

What is the name of the software you use to give the PS3 Netflix capability?

I've got both and aside from Halo3 and Fable 2 (both pretty disapointing IMO) I try not to use the thing. Too prone to catastrophic death, not to mention the damn thing sounds like a tornado. If there's a multiplatform game I get it on the PS3 (assuming it's not available on the PC, or is meant to be played on a controller).

I just dont understand why multiplatform games are worse on the ps2. Like the new brutal legend. PS3 has jaggies and lower texture quality according to reviews.. why.

Because they're developed on the 360 then ported in a rush to the PS3. When you have a choice between the two, always go for the 360 version.

Another plus for the PS3 is free online play. I know that XBOX Live Gold is only $50/year (I think), but after 4 years of paying that, you might as well tack on $200 to the price of the XBOX 360, which makes it a much more-expensive choice than the PS3.

This is my only concern about making the full jump to the PS3. Most game companies do lazy ports to the PS3, and then the PS3 version is usually inferior as a result.

I have both and I usually get multiplatforms on the 360 and exclusives on the PS3. LKove the PS3 but developers are lazy..plus if it is MP, I'd much rather play it on 360.

That's why I held off so long on buying a PS3. However I felt now with all the PS3 exclusives out and more on the way, it's definitely worth it, especially if you already own a 360 on which you can buy and play all the cross-platform titles.

Without going into the differences between Live and PSN, yes it is nice to have free online play. However, $50 is MSRP for a year of Live. If you watch for deals it's not uncommon to find it for $30 per 13 months. Last time I saw that deal I got 4 cards (2 for each of my 360s).

Oh yeah, MS kind of makes it a pain to use the same account on two Xboxes; I guess they feel the need to do that because it's a paid account, and they don't want people to be able to share accounts. The easiest way to use an account on 2 Xboxes is with a memory card, which will set you back even more money. A Live account can't exist on 2 Xboxes at the same time.

I haven't tried it myself, but a piece of software I've seen is called PlayOn.

www.themediamall.com/playon/

Here's a good demonstration video.

It's also available for the Xbox 360.

I stream PlayOn to my 360, PS3 and DirecTV receiver. It is very flexible and recognized by each relatively pain free. One disadvantage PlayOn has over, say, my lg 390 BR/Netflix and YouTube streaming unit is that the lg remembers where you left off watching something so you can resume later. Even if you come back days later (very nice if you've got TV series cued up, where it remembers which episodes you watched and where you stopped if you did so in the middle of a show). With PlayOn, it remembers nothing.
