As my title says I just purchased a 780 HOF card made by Galaxy. The one that comes with the free Arkham Origins. This is to replace my aging 6970 crossfired cards which were showing their age having upgraded to a 1440p monitor. I am wondering how much in a fps bump I should expect with this card? I got a good solid 2.5 to 3 years out of the 6970 crossfire playing games on ultra or very high settings. Should I get at least that much life out of a 780 card? Might be able to pick up a second 780 later on down the road. I had almost went with a 7990 card since they were about the same price. But the majority of the stuff I read on the internet said the 780 is a better choice. I hope so. Oh and I am running a i7 2600k @4.7ghz and 16gigs of 1600mhz ram.

It's a good card and will be ~20% faster(minus the mgpu issues).I believe it will last you awhile.

Well, its a MUCH more interesting question than you may think. For the last manymany years we have had consoles (360/PS3) with muchmuch older hardware in them. The majority of games go hand in hand with PC and console (not all but a damn big lot of em) and therefore haven't really pushed the PC envelope (again, not everything..but most) because that extra time and money to develop that extra eye candy for the PC would not come back in a profit.

Now with these shiny new consoles I expect PC gaming to take a big leap as well since now it makes sense to spend the extra time and money to make em all that much purtier.

Bottom line, thats a VERY nice card and will last a while, but as long as the 6970's? Not so sure it won't be pushed pretty hard come 2years from now.

Wow! That card is sweet. Titan performance at 780 prices. I had not seen this card before. Enjoy that!

A little OT, but doubtful IMO. DICE already said that Battlefield 4 had to be toned back a bit on PS4 and XB1 to maintain decent FPS with 64 players/large maps. That doesn't really bode well for next gen consoles revolutionizing gaming. It sounds more like they are just playing catch up to PCs.

After having spent some more research I think I maybe should have gone with two 770's instead. It doesn't look like the 780 HOF edition can really be SLI'd very easily. It takes up two and a half slots. So its unlikely my board will support two of those side by side.

I could put the HOF on the lower slot then a regular 780 on the upper slot? Does the HOF run at "HOF" speeds where as the regular 780 run at stock speeds?

2x770 2gig cards would likely run into issues before your 780 does, with it's 3gig of RAM. I think you made the right decision.

Yeah I read somewhere that Battlefield 4 will prefer 3gig cards. I was actually looking at the 770 4 gig cards. But i'll just get a second 780 when its needed later on.

That's ~$900 though and you're already running SLI. TRi/quad SLI isn't an easy option to run with if you want to upgrade without replacing your old cards. Your 780 cost ~$200 less and you have the option of running a 2nd 780, which is a pretty simple and reliable system. At least compared to 3 or 4 card systems.

Just benchmark your current cards and your new card in the games you play and you'll know exactly how much faster your new set up is...
