So I'm going to purchased a used 2011 Hyundai Sonata GLS. It is a certified preowned vehicle. Now I must admit I do not know anything about cars and I do not want to be sold a piece of crap. The car looks good from my perspective but since I know nothing about cars I could be wrong.

Can you guys advise me on how to buy this car without getting screwed and covering my ass?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Triforce

Question is, how much is it and does the warranty fully transfer? I mean, new ones are about $20k or so this better be a heck of a deal!

iirc the hyundai warranty is non-transferable

The fact that it's certified pre-owned helps. Means that you get some kind of warranty and that they actually inspected the car before it goes out on the lot. What's the asking price?

honestly i wouldn't buy it. Doubt deal is that great over buying a brand new one. they say cert pre-own is just the same as new car warranty but there are always cases where its different.

I assume that 2011 was in service about july 2010, for 8 month old car it better be a LOT cheaper the new. A LOT... not $20k when the car is $24k brand new type of deal.

was it a rental car? Or do they have the "lose your job give back the car program " still going on..

If dmoney's number are average, I'd much rather spend the extra 2-3k and get a new one. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

DMoney's numbers are pretty close to what they are offering me. About 17,500 is what they are offering me. You think I'm better off spending the extra 3k and buying new?

YES! I'm pretty sure you can get a new one for less than $3k more AND you'll get better financing anyway.

Seems the 10 year powertrain disappears (WEAK) and you're left with the 5 year/60. Not bad, but still I hate the idea of a non transferable. Truecar lists these under $19k new, I'd not buy used for the price mentioned.

Abso-freakin-loutely. If the difference between new and used is less than 15%, there is no reason to buy the used one unless the used vehicle is fully loaded and the new is a base model package. Basically, for 3000 you are getting a vehicle that has never been touched, vs a vehicle that was likely a rental and had the crap beat out of it.

When I purchased my used car, the difference from new to used was significant. Granted, mine was a couple years old, but we're talking 32k retail vs. 18k used. At that point, I can't justify spending the extra for new. But if I was looking at 18k vs 21k I would've gladly spent the extra money for new.
