I dont know how it happened. But i am getting purple fringing on fonts on my Samsung Syncmaster 940BW monitor. Its a LCD 19" Wide Screen.

Purple fringing as in the fonts have a very certain and visible purple ghosting, a purple glow. I knw this is shld happen in a LCD monitor but not this much! Its almost everywhere. No matter the size of the font or its shape, the purple glow is everywhere. Here is an example of how it looks like on notepad:

It was never like this before. The black text appears purple after a while, the fonts are washed out because of the purple glow.

At first i thought it was my monitor but then i plugged in a Benq 19" which works fine on another computer and i got the same results over here! Now i am in confusion, is it my DVI cable? or My graphic card or wat? Its certainly not windows because i have just formatted because of this.

Please help me out here! Its horribly annoying to surf the net!

My Pc specs are:
AMD Athlon 64 3200
Albatron K8SLi NF4
1GB OCz @2-2-2-5
Creative Audigy2 ZS
Zalman 5.1 Headphones
Ati 1900XT Crossfire
80GB Segate SATA-II 2MB
Enermax 535W PSU

Edit: Oh and yes, i have tried re-installing my gfx card drivers. No luck. Even downgraded from 7.1 to 6.12.

Wats the use of trying it again? It makes it a lot worse. And formatting my pc didnt help one bit. No risk man.

Refresh rate is set on 75Hz. I will try a different cable though. Lets see.

Any other solutions welcomed!

I tried 60Hz and the tuner was already set in. 60 is very hazy to me. I move my eyes from one end to the other and its not smooth enough. Eh, its my eyes maybe, lol.

oldmanyoung,

I had a similar problem with video artifacts.

I don't know if the fix that worked in my case would also work for you.
All I can tell you is that I was having similar trouble as you are.

In an unrelated activity, I wanted to reduce chipset temperature for my overclocking, & took off the stock chipset cooler & installed an aftermarket chipset cooler

As an unexpected side benefit, the instant I improved the chipset temperature, the video artifact problem instantly went away forever.

What I installed is:

EVERCOOL VC-RE TWINKLING VGA AND CHIPSET COOLER (DFI RECOMMENDED) , $8.95 + $2.20 shipping by 1st class mail (comes in a very well - protected little box) + $0.74 sales tax. You'd also need a tiny drop of Arctic Silver 5 or ceramique to install it, so that's another $7 or $8.

I reemphasize, I appreciate that this seems unrelated to a video artifact problem, but in my particular case it reduced chipset temp by about 5 deg C & my video problem went away. No guarantee that this would help you, but there's a chance it might.

edited to fix typos

Could be what Scott mentioned, but honestly it sounds to me like your LCD is going bad. Like someone else mentioned try the monitor on another computer.

As JackRipper mentioned, I see no fringing at all on the text in your screenshot, so I would agree with others that have said it is probably a problem with the monitor cable or with the monitor itself. Connect the monitor to a different computer (or a different monitor to the same computer) and see if the issue follows the monitor, or if it stays with any monitor attached to this computer.
