2 yrs ago I completed the 100 pushup regimen.
I was able to do 10 chin ups where as my previous high was like 5.

I've stopped doing push ups and am doing chest presses.

I can only 3 chin-ups now?!

you're kidding right?

No actually I wasn't. I thought it was called bench press.

First two years ago was a long time.
2nd what was the 100 push up regimen, you did 100 pushups straight?
3rd you are either heavier or not benching properly to make strength gains, so the push up method strengthened you more.

chins also use a lot of biceps. Were you training those with the pushups as well and then stopped?

Why don't your just start working out your back as hard as you do your chest so that you won't be on here complaining in the future?

Your chin ups numbers shouldn't have gone down by that much. I can see them going to 7-8 if you haven't done chin ups in a while.

If you want to get better at chins ups I would do more chin ups.

Bench pressing primarily works your chest and triceps. These muscles don't work during the chin up which is primarily biceps and back.

Push ups is primarily chest and triceps as well. But has more isometric work on your back than doing bench press as your lying down on the bench.

Did you gain any weight since you last did 100 push ups?

ah.. I gained 10lbs.
but that shouldn't affect the # of chin-ups that dramatically

Well the proof is in the number of reps.

Gaining 10lbs and not doing the exercise or doing what you were doing previously isn't going to help your chin up numbers.

You may have some imbalances before? Any injuries in that time? I lost a 1/3 of my 1RM strength when I was away traveling for 3months. I did lose about 9kg of weight and a chunk of that being muscle as well.

I bet if you did chins ups 3x a week for a few weeks you will be up to 10 in no time IMO.

I stopped lifting heavy for like 6 weeks, and my chin up count went down by like 3. Now you gained 10lb and stopped for 2yrs.

2 + 2 = ...?

You 10 weigh lbs more, plus you haven't done them in awhile. 10 lbs is actually a huge change for chin ups.
