So embarrassing details aplenty: A few months ago my GF decided to surprise me with a few naughty pics. I of course kept them on my computer.
Well now, I need to send my computer in to get something still under warranty replaced. I double checked with costumer service and they assured me I didn't need to send my hard drive.
My GF is flipping out and convinced that if I send it in some pervy computer tech is going to find the pictures and post them all over the internet. I keep trying to explain to her that this will not happen and with out the HDD they have nothing.
Please Anand tech, do me a favor and back me up on this. If I have the hard drive, they don't have the pictures.
Non-nude pics of GF to follow if she is convinced. (since I know without this promise the first 15 posts will all include the phrase "pics?").

God damn it. Now you have her freaking out about the SD cards. Seriously this came back to bite me in the ass.
She really should be. My wife and I took an artful photo on a point and shoot (just some casual and very hard to actually see nipple stuff). About that time she updated the SD card for that point and shoot - so into the digital picture frame it went.
I don't know how, but we still cannot remove that nipple pic from the card. No matter how many times we overwrite it - the nipple pic shows up on the digital picture frame. There are no pictures left on the card, but that frame picks em up and displays them anyways. It was actually quite funny because her mom noticed the nipple and pointed it out and she was like "WTF I totally deleted that picture" wrote 0's, filled the card with other non-nipple pics, deleted, formatted, wrote 0's again - wham, every single pic that was on that card shows back up, including the nipple one. At this point its fairly blurry. Its the weirdest thing, but the fix was just to destroy the SD card and get a brand new one. Now she will only do nudes on film - that we develop together, so no surprise nipples anymore
oh and no pics of my wife. Fuck you guys. srsly
On the digital frame's internal memory or the SD card?
There is no "user accessible" internal memory. It's on the SD card.
I used MANY different products, possibly even DBAN. After just about every attempt I also used recovery SW which found all the same pics that the frame kept showing.
I'm 80% sure the frame doesn't use the file system, but reads the card directly bit for bit, hence the slowly degrading pictures.
a couple zero fills should do the trick, not sure how anything will remain after that

Think about it for a minute, If the pictures on the SD card are "deleted" and overwritten, than how exactly is it getting them? My point to the OP - SD cards are much more to worry about than the hard drive. It seems that ghost images stay on them a lot longer than you might expect.
