I have a Verizon/D-Link DSL Modem/Router. There's a USB port on the back. I can put a non-powered, 2.5" HDD on it under 1TB and access it on my WiFi network. A thumbdrive works too.
If I put an 8TB WD My Book, powered 3.5" HDD on it, it doesn't "see" it. It's not available on the WiFi network. There's always a Verizon Drive in my network display in Win10 even when nothing is on the USB port. If I click on it, it's empty.
Is there an inexpensive way I can get this 8TB on my WiFi network? I know I can attach it to a laptop and share it. I was hoping to not have to have a laptop on all the time to access the HDD.
I saw a device on Newegg. It cost around $35, I think. You can connect a HDD to it and connect it to a LAN port on your main router. It claims to allow you to read/write to a HDD but it reads/writes to FAT32 only. It only reads NTFS. It's also only USB2.0.
Thanks for any help.
