She's a she.

Did you do that with the company that called you back, your current employer?

No. The boss has actually really been a nice guy. Him and a friend that works there are the only reason I left on good terms.
I did leave the job I left for in said fashion. Quit showing up and didn't bother to call. When I leave current job again I plan on not giving notice.

4 weeks part time, ~80 hours of work.

There is no way you are critical enough at this point to matter.

I'd just go in Monday morning, tell them this will be your last day and see what you need to do to wrap up.

Sticking around for such a short amount of time period is fairly unprofessional but I'd consider starting you off part time to indicate a job that isn't exactly considered professional to begin with.

You could be burning a bridge but I highly doubt it. If the other place wants you right now it is a risk you might just have to take.

When you get a formal offer for a new job, let your current company know you are going to accept and ask if they would like you to stay on to finish anything up but that otherwise you will be leaving. If they ask you to stay, feel free to negotiate how long you are willing to remain. I would cap it at a week though, anything longer is a huge waste of your time.

I agree with most of what is said in this post but think above is the best answer.

Chances are they wouldn't give notice if they were letting you go so don't feel bad by extending them the same consideration. Once upon a time people were treated more like people and in return you let your employer know as a courtesy. Now employees are not valued , in fact despised and just liabilities. That's my place. Do what's best for you.

Weird - am I about the only one who realizes that not only are you quitting on the company, but you're also quitting on your coworkers? Unless there's zero mobility from one company to another company in your field - which you've proven isn't true - you never know who might be your potential boss 10 years down the road. If it's someone who remembers, "I remember her, she's the one who waited until Friday to tell us she quit" - it could have repercussions.

How about this: talk to your boss - communicate. "I have an opportunity... full time, with benefits... need benefits, especially insurance... can work until the end of the week here if you need me to, but would like to start the new job ASAP to get those benefits in place, plus start earning more money so I can cover my living expenses plus student loans." The boss might say, "if you want this to be your last day, that's fine." Or, the boss might say, "yeah, we need you until the end of the week." Don't give in to a "we need you to give two weeks" demand.

I'm not feeling much loyalty to a company that hires me PT to "try me out." Hire me or not. And she probably should have the conversation with the manager unless the FT company says she needs to be here Monday.

On the karma side, at least two weeks notice would be nice... But part-time, barely 4 weeks? I would just talk to the boss and work it out like someone else suggested.

Also, check the employment laws in your state. Are you "right to work"?

I found out while researching that in my province in Canada, I was actually required to give "adequate notice". People have been sued for it.

I think 0 weeks notice would be fine in that situation.

I agree. He is simply part time and doesn't like the environment. He doesn't owe the employer anything in that role and it's not like they'd give him two weeks notice if they wanted to terminate.

His employer should understand this is a much better opportunity for them and they want him to start right away.

This too. I wouldn't just quit cold turkey, but definitely communicate.

In many cases, at least in my experience when I gave my two weeks notice I was paid for it, but told don't worry coming back in.
