I had a custom desk built in the office which has a 24x24x24 cabinet and am wondering about cooling.

The desk will have my PC, a network switch, a NAS, and two UPS units

Right now the only ventilation is a 2.5" grommet hole near the top for cable pass-through

The shelf/divider I am having them cut back by 4" for cable passage behind the devices so the cabinet will be open in the back but not have much ventilation

I ordered this:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001DT1H7M/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

But wonder if that would be enough and if I should consider something like this:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QFWLGPU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Has anyone installed active cooling in their cabinet before and if so what has worked?

Thanks

I would treat the cabinet space like a PC case and you should be ok. Have a front intake fan and then a vent in the back, on top. I would put a temp sensor or something inside to get an idea of temp. Try to keep it around the same as the ambiant room temp.

I would put at least two 120mm fan holes for intake and equal exhaust area. You can use a hole saw to get a nice hole that will actually fit a 120mm fan pretty much exact. and get a wire grille.

Thanks, I actually emailed the company that makes that kit and they said for my size of a cabinet to just get one fan up at the rear and then at the bottom an intake vent so that cool air comes in the bottom and then is pushed out the back. the PC in the cabinet has 6 fans itself so I will see how that goes with the one fan, if I have to add another I can always add an intake fan at the bottom of the cabinet.
