Putting unmanaged switch between router and PC

I am Finally upgrading my home network from Buffalo WHR-HP-G54. My new main router will be the Asus rt-ac66u. I am being super picky over details of optimal placement, to optimize signals/bandwidth.

In basement, I have cable modem and a Vonage box, then a cat6 wire through the ceiling to Entertainment center on the first floor, where Asus will be mounted, then cat6 back to the basement to an 8 port gigabit unmanaged switch (TRENDnet 8-Port Unmanaged Gigabit GREENnet Desktop Metal Housing Switch, TEG-S80g) then cat 6 to my gaming PC and a HTPC)

Am I asking for trouble putting the switch between my main PC and the ASUS router? I was planning on having the asus acting as the DHCP server, in place of the Buffalo. Will the unmanaged switch interfere in some way?
Will I be able to set up the asus from my main PC (through the switch).

You'll be fine. A switch is exactly what you need in your basement so that you can have all of your cables terminated there with your Router on the 1st floor. And there is usually no reason that you would need a managed switch for regular household use.

You'll be adding about 1ms of additional latency, or less...but otherwise, no, you are not asking for trouble at all and that is exactly how I'd set things up.

OK, got it all hooked up and working nifty.
The only problem was my wife getting out her work laptop in the middle of my installing the ASUS and griping that she couldn't save her work when VPN initiated on the Buffalo stopped working
