As the title asks, does anyone recommend an "inexpensive" deep fryer? I'm looking for one that is ~$100.00 US. Thanks in advance!

Big Lots has a few of them for $15. They are small, but get the job done.

I was gonna say Fry-Baby, great for 2 people. I suppose it depends how much food you plan on frying.

I miss my Fry Daddy

Having said that, they suck at maintaining the temp when a large amount of cold food is added.

Yep, and that's when the grease can enter the food instead of searing the outside and cooking it properly. Grease soaked food FTL.

get one of the ones with a top that closes if you don't want your whole place to smell like fried foods for a day, also might want to invest in a lipitor prescription when your cholesterol goes through the roof.

i got one at william sonoma for ~100 , gets better reviews than frydaddy

built in therm means you dont have to control temp on a pot..but if you go the pot route - cast iron or thick anodized alum

I have the exact same non-digital one. A wise-ass friend decided to throw me a surprise "Let's fry everything we can think of" birthday party, and gave the fryer to me as part of it. It works pretty well.

I think the Fry Daddy works fine and is cheaper, from what I've heard. It holds less oil than the Presto, so you can't add as much food at a time. But it's smaller, which is a plus for an appliance I use less than once a year.

This is above your price range, but you may be able to find it cheaper if you shop around. There is also those 20% off coupons that Bed Bath and Beyond mails out all of the time which would bring the price down to $120. I just got this fryer a few months ago and it is amazing. The automatic filtering and storage of the oil is extremely cool.

Only if you're cooking with worthless oils. Canola, Sesame and Peanut oils are the best for deep frying. High smoke point and the fats you get from them will actually work to reduce cholesterol. They're just not that cheap so places like McD's is no doubt using the safflower and cottenseed crap.

Fish and chips!!!!

Looks like a re-badged T-Fal. I try not to give celebrity chefs premium prices just so I can have thier autograph in my kitchen.

Sooo...you're attempting to say that's healthy?

I'm not getting on a high horse here, I eat as bad as your average american (which means no fish and chips ) but I've resisted the urge to buy a fryer in the interest of not dying at 50.
