I've always said, if there aren't enough people to fight, they ought to offer more money for the job. If taxpayers get hit too hard by the cost, they might not be so inclined to give the OK to more police actions. We spend a helluva lot now, for our military, and it's money well spent. If we can't protect our country, the economy will REALLY take a shlt. The slight discomfort we're experiencing now, will seem like a utopia by comparison. The extra cost for a mercenary priced army will seem like peanuts compared to an economy in ruins.
The fair thing to do is pay a fair wage for this service. Hike up the pay for the most dangerous jobs. There's got to be 101 ways to distribute money to entice people to fill these positions. Too damn bad if taxpayers have to feel a little pinch.
