there's a very good reason they're not selling them online at that price.
how much do they loose per chip? about $90. get people in store and attach other products to them and try to use the margin on those items to offset the loss.
it's all about smart business.
as far as the e8400's... that's in intel's court.
That's exactly what they are doing. At the store in Tustin, CA they are requiring a $25 minimum purchase with the processor. I ended up paying more online, but I didn't like the fact that particular stores were requiring a purchase in addition to the promotion they are running without letting people know on the website.
You sure about that?
There seems to be a LOT of misinformation floating around about this deal. Lots of people are bitter that you can only buy them in-store, and I suspect that's where a lot of the vitriol comes from. People have been saying: 1. They're OEM, not retail, and MC posted "retractions" to their ad in "all" stores. 2. All stores sold out within the first 24 hours of the sale (which was, what, a month ago?) and only a handful of people per store got any. 3. Extra purchase beyond processor required.
I just picked one up on Sunday night for $199. Didn't have to buy anything else.
Did you personally go to the store and try to buy one only to be turned away for not making an additional purchase, or is this just something you heard?
