Let me preface this by saying I'm a newb with overclocking. I've read graysky's guide maybe 10x now and am getting a better understanding though still not yet a complete one.

My issue is that my OC'd rig can go into standby mode in windows xp, but does not come back from its slumber. The computer will turn on for like 3 seconds and then shut back down and loop like this indefinitely. Actually, the first time into stand by is fine but when I go back into standby a 2nd time, it does the weird looping power thing.

Note: My computer does just fine powering on and off. Standby is the only thing giving me trouble

When the computer is not OC'd it uses standby just fine. Should I just say this is good enough and move on? I usually keep my computer off anyways as I'm not home a lot, but I can sit in front of my computer for like 2 hours and game with absolute impunity when given the chance (usually weekends).

So here are my specs and maybe it can shed some light. I'll give as much info as I can and if you need more please ask as I'm sure I'll forget some crucial thing.

Windows XP pro w/ service pack 3

Q6600 OC'd to 3.0ghz
Gigabyte ep35-ds3r
4 gigs of gskill ddr2 800
FSP 500W psu
9600 GT
250gb western digital SATA
LG SATA burner

Speedstep off
C1E off
CPU multiplier = 9x
FSB = 334
Ram timings = 5-5-5-15 running at 830mhz
Vcore is 1.387 volts in bios, vdroop reading in windows is 1.344 idle and down to 1.29 -1.31ish during load

What I've done....
1. Run prime95 for about an hour no probs (I will probably do an 8 hr burn longer but not seeing issues in my games and programs as of yet)
2. Memtest says I'm good (2 hrs.)
3. Up'ed vcore to about 1.4 and no luck, will try higher voltages if ya'll recommend

I wouldn't give up that easy. A lot of times the cold boot issue can be tracked to the RAM or not enough voltage to a component. What voltage is your RAM running at? The board defaults to 1.8v. Most Memory needs 2.0 - 2.1 volts to run at their rated speeds. My Gigabyte motherboad required a little boost in the NB voltage to solve some weird issues. I would also make sure you have the latest BIOS. A BIOS upgrade fixed the cold boot issues on another computer I built with a Gigabyte motherboard.

virtuallarry: well that kinda sucks but I can live with it if thats the case.

short: I'm not sure what the bios is but it has to be pretty recent since I the most recent revision to this board (2.1). I'm a little hesitant of doing anything with bios since no standby mode is not a deal breaker for me. Ram is running at the rated 5-5-5-15 speed at 1.8v. It can also run at 1.9 according to the manufacturer so I might try that. thanks.

thanks mango. Kind of a bummer after reading that thread but I can live with it. Everything else works great and the OC was super easy so I'll take what I've got
