Q6600 Temperater

Hi everyone,

I have followed the guide for overclocking my cpu and my setup is as in my signature but running at 3Ghz now, 9x333.

Now as the title suggest i am having issues with the temperature. I have a one of these fans and SpeedFan is reporting the following temperatures:

Core 1 - 46
Core 2 - 43
Core 3 - 40
Core 4 - 44

Give or take a degree.

Now if SpeedFan is still bugged with the 15c problem, then this is idling at a high temperature. I am running PC Probe 2 too (which i read was rubbish) and that tells me the core is at 36.

Which do i trust and are there any other programs i can compare with?

What are you thoughts?

UPDATE:

I have just restarted and clocked it back to 2.4GHz to compare the results and PowerFan says that the temperatures are on averag 4c less at idle. PC Probe 2 gives the same difference, but reports as 32c. The motherboard says that the temperature is 44.

Use CoreTemp to check your temps.

AFAIK it offers the best results (closest to what they actually are). I've seen many people say other apps (like using the bios PC Health Status or other apps like Speedfan) are off by several degrees.

Ok well im in hte middle of a game of crysis and at stock speeds the temperatures reported are:

48
45
43
46

The temperatures i posted above are with CoreTemp

It appears to go up to about 50c on average when playing crysis. I don't know why it would be that high with an aftermarket fan.

Because not all aftermarket HSF are made the same and that one probably stinks?

It's either that, a mounting issue, or a thermal paste issue. Try reseating the heatsink and cleaning then reapplying your thermal paste. If the temps don't fall then get a different HSF.
