Q6600

I got back from working out of town today, and I noticed we had two of these in the office for sale, my cost is $499 (we were selling them for $569). I JUST built the gaming system in my sig, but should I pick up one of these at that price? I can sell this week and a half old e6600 in a heartbeat, so that could offset some of the cost. I dont know if the boss will order any more of them, so I kind of want to jump on it, unless something is coming out that will blow it away for the same or less money somewhat soon.

Also, will my Zalman CNPS9500 be adequate for that processor?

Links to your rigs don't work.

9500 should work for stock, but i doubt you'll get far with it OCed, as it's not great, & the quads run very hot.

Personally, i don't see much need for quad cores yet unless all you play is Supreme Commander or you spend all your time video encoding.
But then again, i can't see your current rig, so i have no idea if it's uber high end or not.

If so, & you feel like burning $$$, why not?

Thats strange that the links dont work.

The system I just built has an Asus P5n32-E SLI motherboard, 4gb of G.Skill PC6400 (2x 2gb sticks) memory, and a Core 2 Duo e6600 processor. Video card is an 8800GTX.

I was not really planning to overclock anyways.

And since you're not planning on OCing, but you've obviously spent enough $$$ on your current system, i'd say why not

I just might do that. I figure I could sell the e6600 pretty quick on the forums here, and that makes the cost a little better to manage.

Seeing as the Q6600 is supposed to drop in price to $266 in August of this year (~4 months or so Price Drop Thread) I would suggest waiting a little while. What you built should serve you well and buying now would just mean you will be losing about $200 now rather than later (in trying to sell your E6600).

Just another thought.

That's what I think I am going to do. Either that, or maybe they will have a better core out by then to better compete with barcelona. This machine I have is damn fast as it is. Thanks.
