Why not get a Q9450 or Q9550 after the cuts and run it at 3.6ghz? I would only go with the 9650 if I was trying for 3.7+ stable on air.

Because I´m a noob (this was my first build + first overclock), and I wanted to run my FSB/memory at a 1:1 ratio without having to overclock the memory (planned to do 9 x 400, since my memory is 800Mhz DDR2).

It would be cheaper to buy some 1066.......

Ah..I did not see your memory specs ! Overclocking 4 sticks is already hard enough on the board...then you throw in an OC'd quad...I see your point

Ya I saw that, good job! I was just wondering why you didn't simply increase the voltage to compensate for the Vdroop, or you are concerned with increase in idle voltage and voltage spikes that might randomly result?

Because high voltage even on idle will kill the chip.

To compensate for the crappy nvidia board i would need a uber high idle voltage.

Voltage is voltage under load or not. And it can kill

running my q9650 @ 9x450 passed occt 1 hour test @ 1.4v (1.36v in windows)


i ran my q9450 @ 8x475 but it would never pass occt or prime for more than a couple hours, games and windows ran fine however
