Where did I ever say the *most* popular usage is the only accepted definition? In fact, where the hell did I even say "popular". Read my posts again. I said "words can get their definition from usage". Usage doesn't have to be popular or even common, see the list I linked to for examples. When's the last time you used "granny dumping" or "superchurch"? I haven't until this thread.

If people use FTW as "for the win", as well as "fvck the world", both definitions will be accepted. Simple as that.

edit: as far as "common usage" goes yes it would have to be common to the group of people using the term. So if it's common for "computer users" to use the term it could be accepted as a definition. My statement earlier about me using those words isn't a good point. The definition should be common to the people expected to use it.

ATM = automated teller machine (place to get cash)
ATM = Asychronous Transfer Mode (communication technology based on cells rather than frames)
ATM = I'm sure there are others.
