I just installed the Tomato firmware on my WRT54GL in hopes to use QoS to help regulate priority bandwidth.

Here's the logic in what I want to setup.

I have a VOIP phone and desktop connected via ethernet, a PS3 setup under wireless, and then a couple wireless laptops.

I want the VOIP to always be able to utilize 100% of the bandwidth. Then the PS3, then the desktop, and then everything else can be below that.

For example, if I'm on the desktop, download a file, and the phone rings, I want the desktop to slow down so the phone will have as much bandwidth as possible.

My modem gets the following up/down:

Download Speed: 20768 kbps (2596 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 4150 kbps (518.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

What should I enter under the basic settings of QoS?

I enabled filtering via MAC address.

What you want to do is give the VOIP traffic highest priority. Is the VOIP traffic going to a seperate device on your IP network?

If so you could give priority based on IP address. You willh ave to use DCHP reservations or static IP's for this method to work effectively. Say for example VOIP-phone is 192.168.1.10, PS3 is .20 and PC is .30.

Give the HIGHEST priority to 192.168.1.10, the 2nd highest to .20 and the third highest to .30. Everything else will default to below that. of the PC

Make sure to set your upload/download limits to somewhat below what your link speeds are.

Okay I actually looked at your picture and what you have done is basically the same thing but with MAC addresses. That is fine. There is nothing wrong with your settings, why would you change anything?

Just as a note, you can only reliably QoS data that you are sending.

You can kind of slow downstream TCP traffic down by delaying ACKs and screwing with window sizes and stuff, but it's not reliable, and doesn't work at all for UDP traffic.

Sadly, there isn't much you can do to get around this.

I'll have to go through and read that thread..

"Give the HIGHEST priority to 192.168.1.10, the 2nd highest to .20 and the third highest to .30. Everything else will default to below that. of the PC"
- If the 2nd highest is .20, that means it will never be able to utilize 100% of the overall bandwidth, when the 1st device is doing nothing. Right?
