I have Windows XP installed and my computer has an Intel Q6600 Core 2 Quad 2.4 CPU, 4gb of ram, a Gigabyte motherboard and a MSI 8600GTS video card. Whenever i get into my Task Manager it shows my total cpu usage at around 45%+ all the time even without a single program or window open. I've seen this before and it seemed to quit but now it's back and will not go away, i've noticed it is under (Image Name) SYSTEM and (User Name) SYSTEM and it stays at like 7-15 under CPU. Whenever it should almost be non existent. Can someone help me out? Yes i've tried spyware programs and scans and not a single thing turns up.

Install Process Explorer and look in it under System to see what's in use that's taking resources.

Ok, downloaded it, it shows System as being the other cpu usage, but under neither it there isn't anything that is spiking under it or using anything. There is also DCP's called Deferred Procedure Call and Hardware Interrupts. The DCP says it's using 18 of the CPU and around 7 or 8 of cpu for the Hardware Interrupts.

My total usage used to only be like 5% if that at idle without programs running and now it's at 40% which means it's bogging my computer down to run my blurays or other programs.

What can i kill in order to see if it fixes this?

That Winsys2.exe which is shown in your screen capture is a trojan. Time to clean that machine up...

Hmm, wonder why AVG didn't pick this up? What is a better spyware/trojan software?

After looking the Winsys2.exe on google, many people say it's not a backdoor trojan that is indeed from the MSI drivers for my video card.

Any other possiblities on why my computer is using up so much CPU?

Eliminate it as a problem - uninstall all the MSI junk, including their video drivers and any additional stuff, and then install nVidia's reference drivers (a better idea anyway), and then see if issues persist.

I installed the drivers from the nvidia website, those are the ones i done before any MSI disk was inserted. So MSI drivers shouldn't be there at all. I deleted the Winsys2.exe and restarted and the same thing continues.

And winsys2.exe is still running? If you didn't install MSI anything, how did winsys2.exe get there?

I deleted the Winsys2.exe from startup and also from ever running just in case it was a virus or trojan. I installed the latest drivers from Nvidia and that is all that is running and it's still running at 50-60% cpu usage.

Can you post another picture of PE please?

Again, if you never installed MSI tools, how did it get there? If you didn't install MSI tools, then it must be a trojan, fair to say?

I'm not sure how it got on there if i never used the MSI, i reinstalled windows a while back because i ran into a NTDLR missing error. But whenever i rebooted windows i went straight from to the Nvidia site to get my drivers.

Seems you have XP - are you running SP3 and all offered updates?

Running the kernel utility from the 2003 RK looks like the next thing I'd try.

It looks like a bad driver to me which is causing high amount of DPC. Try disabling your network card or wifi card and see if it goes away.

I'm assuming this is a HP desktop? Be better if you could install a plain jane install of Windows XP.

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R: I should note that this motherboard had problems with DPC with the early bios. Sometimes the newer bios would fix it but I don't think Gigabyte ever solved the problem.
