Quad core laptop with long battery life?

I want a laptop with an SSD, 8gb+ memory, matte or anti glare display, with 1080p or more resolution. I also want something that weighs less than five pounds and gets good battery life.

All I can find are gaming laptops with beefy nvidia graphics. I don't want a gaming laptop, primarily because I don't want the heat and the low battery life.

The only thing I can find is the macbook pro. Its a great laptop, and probably what I will get. I just would prefer not to pay the macbook pro price .

Does anybody know of any haswell, or ideally even sky lake, quad core laptop that meets these specs, and can reliably get 5+ hours of battery doing light load/web surfing? I would really appreciate having more than one option. Thanks for any tips .

Most mobile Intel Core i5 and i7 processors are dual core but can run four threads. True quad cores have higher power consumption and thus less battery life. If you're not doing serious grunt work, check out laptops with the Core i7 5500U or 5600U. Broadwell architecture so it's low power. 9 hour battery life on Windows.

Why waste a quad core on light load/web browsing?

Anyways, the XPS 15 2015 has a lot of your wants (matte screen, true quad core, battery life, starts at 4.5). And obviously at a price premium too ($1600+, more for quad core)

Look at the (professional) thinkpad line for matte screens... Consumer laptops typically have glossy

I want a true quad core CPU. I have done some shopping around, seriously considering a barebones clevo from RJtech. I can get a haswell 650s model for 729 with everything but a hard drive and memory, and then I can pick up a second battery on ebay for less than 50$. I have read that the bios in clevos are pretty decent. I should be able to under volt and down clock a tad and squeeze out more battery life. Anybody have experience with something like this?

Perhaps I should start a different thread :/

Obviously, OP wants to do demanding stuff on the outlet while still having some semblance away from an outlet in light use. One machine for multiple compute needs essentially.

I'd lean toward the MacBook Pro, mainly for the much better high-res scaling, the trackpad and the keyboard (I use a 13-inch MacBook Pro myself). The XPS 15 would be my pick if you cared more about graphics prowess or options like touch.

Yes exactly. Couldn't have said it better. Also MoH pOwer hue hue

"Some semblance of battery life..." is what I meant to put in there, but you got my point spot on.

Unfortunately, in terms of a well-balanced laptop, the Macbook Pro is the one to beat, alongside the, perhaps even more obscenely priced, Razor laptop. If you want that well balanced machine, prepare your credit line.

jack of all trades require some sort of compromise

either price (look at the XPS 15 line as I've said, or macbook pro), or reduce one of your demands

it's the old saying - choose two of the three

price, performance, portability(weight/size)
