It's a different situation, so there's no "hypocrisy" involved.

The Crossfire dongle competes against a "dongle-less" solution.

Quad SLI competes against nothing, it just totally and utterly dominates anything ATI can make. The fact that it requires two power bricks isn't shocking, I doubt many PSUs can feed four 7800GTXs and the rest of a PC.

Just another pointless post by Ackmed trying to point out imagined flaws in other posters reasoning instead of discussing the hardware.

It's sad when members lead threads off track with uinnecessary baiting.

I doubt that Ackmed. Southpaw is one of the people here that I exchange PMs with.

You, by your own admission, are married and have a big belly.

Southpaw is a single college student scoring with cute girls from the looks of the .jpgs he's sent me.

I'd say "Advantage Southpaw" on that one big fella.

i hope the upcoming 90 series drivers do more than just add support for quad SLI...namely give a little boost in performance!

but quad sli, wow, thats really overkill. it'd be really nice to have yes, but...honestly, thats costing way too much. i'd take 4x7800GT and count my lucky stars that i even have ANY money left!

i understand the reason they are using externals....i just remembered looking at the asus dual 7800GT on the egg, and i remember how much people were dropping their jaws when it said "external power required".

what else is next, 8xG71 using 2000 watts? that would freaking cool...until you get your electric bill.

Whoa, just noticed a part of your post. You claim the GTX is "cutting edge". Thats pretty funny, since it is less "cutting edge" as the X1800 series. You see, some people used to argue against the X800 saying it was "2 year old tech". Now that it has flip-flopped, and NV has the older tech, its not brought up. Another example of being hypocritical.

This happens all the time with certain people. Before it was ok that Farcry had a recalled patch, that allowed HDR. This was not a problem then. But now that there is a patch that has HDR+AA for X1k cards, but that its beta, its not ok. Its "unsupported" and not accepted by some people. Yet when roles were reversed, it was ok. Just another example.

Certain people like to try and take the high road, and tell others to not name call, be offensive, or go off topic. Yet certain people quoted you doing just that in this topic. Laughing, and encouraging more of it. Another example of hypocrites on here.

Flip-flopping to help your agenda is pretty sad. Take a stance on something, and stick to it.

I see your point Ackmed.Yes it is hypocritical to rant about dongles and then add a bunch of power connectors.

But then sli came first,no dongles, ati a year later(and is a 2 card item) yet it needs it.Now if ATI came out with quad gpu that DIDN'T need external power, that would be saying something.

Personally the wires at the back don't bother me,(to each their own).

But I feel having to buy a "Master card" is a major pita.
It won't bother some people,as I've said to each their own.

This is pretty much what I tried to tell him. And all I get was "When did I mention Quad Crossfire?" When I never said he did. I did. And it does not exist, but if it did, I'm sure it could have external power bricks as well PLUS AN ADDITIONAL dongle cable. There is no hipocrisy. Ackmed was comparing the complaints of a 2 cards crossfire dongle against NO complaints for a quad SLI setup. When someone looks at the awesome power of this setup, they can become surprisingly forgiving.

The next comment i just can not resist to make. (please dont find me insulting)
"so I am limited to playing his JumpStart, Finding Nemo, Lilo & Stitch and Dora the Explorer games with him, which I still enjoy because he enjoy's it very much."

I hope you enjoy playing those games on you quad Dell.

Dude, your getting a Dell.

Actually, we play these games on his own computer in his room. I am not getting the Dell system. I cannot afford it. And my reference to this was to show you the level of gaming my son is at currently. It will be quite a few years until we can start the shooters, if he even likes them. So, I wasn't insulted.

So, if you were a professional CAD engineer or were into military simulators, I could see someone buying the quadro's. Thats fine for them. But we are kinda talking about gaming here.

No doubt. But 32x AA is absolutely mind blowing. Rollo posted a BF2 pic of the Gulf of Oman at the US spawn (for those who are familiar with the game) and you could barely see the jaggies in the background on the crane. 32x AA seems to be absolute end of all jaggies.

y the hell would u need 32x AA.., jaggies already ended at 1800x1400 on 6x AA unless ur still gaming at 640x480 32x AA

No. You saying you're all grown up and as a result would not buy such a system, implies that you are calling anyone who buys this system, childish. That in itself, is immature. If you can't afford it, or can afford it but just can't justify the expense, or if your finger is just about to hit the nuke button on Dell's site, it's all the same to me. You do what you want to do with your money and don't judge others for doing what they want to with their money. The rich can be frugal and not go for such expenditures (probably part of the reason they are rich in the first place), and the not so rich can overextend themselves to get what they want, put more on the old credit card and suffer with the bill later. It's their choice. It's why we have free will.
And you are making a BIG deal of someone's comments . . . You are also judging . . . i also think people who buy quad SLI and drive Hummers are wasteful . . . so what?

we're entitled to our opinions [period]

As I am entitled mine. So what's different? Because you said so? Not.

Yes, why not? i can't think of a better reason from my POV . . . i just got sick of your ragging on someone 's opinion . . . seemed like you took several posts to make your invalid point - just opinion - where one post was more than enough.

and i am definitely looking forward to Quad-SLI . . . eventually this will filter down to the midrange and into more mainstream affordability.

I laughed too, because its just more FUD. When does being married mean you dont get sex? Sorry to break the stereotype, married people can have sex, and a lot of it.

I never said I have a big belly. Im right at 6', and 190lbs. Thats not fat to me, but that just my opinion.

So someone in their 40's is sneaking pics looking at college girls in PM's, and then takes a crack at me? Hmmm...

My wife Yeah, Im miserable.

But hey, now we're off topic! Who started this? Oh yeah.. the usual suspects. Tomorrow we'll see them rag on people for doing the same thing.

So back on topic, does this card work in other systems besides Dells? Ive asked this before, but apparently people just want to argue. If so, that would be great, as it would be much cheaper than 2x$450 GTX's. Although the closeness of the cards worries me. Looks like there is 1/16" between them.

As usual, you totally misunderstand.

I wasn't saying your wife is unattractive, I wasn't saying you "don't have sex".

I was saying Southpaw sleeps with cute girls as well, but he gets to sleep with a different one every night if he wants to.

College sex FTW.

I don't care if your wife is this years top supermodel Ackie. A guy in college scoring with several women isn't going to be envying you, like you said.

Is it possible that this and other oem situations are eating up the majority of these(gtx 512) ,thus making them impossible to find e-tail/retail?

I've read elsewhere that they will be widely available at the time of the 580 launch seeing as the 71 will be a bit later.

Is it also possible that they may be stockpiling the 512 chips to have more stock at release as to not allowing as much price gouging?

I would definitely be interested in a dual gtx 256 version if it ever came to the masses.

What's to wonder? He's a friend, sent me pics of his last two new girlfriends. He sends MP3s of groups he thinks I might like at times as well, and forwards jokes from his email circle.

It's the sort of thing friends do Bouzouki, if you were a more pleasant person, people might correspond with you as well?
