After the monstrosity that was Doom 3, I'm going to wait for a good long while until I pick up this game. No longer am I going to blindly trust another iD game. The last time I picked up a game at full retail was Doom 3.. I'm not going to make that mistake again.

Actually it was made by Raven, under the direction of Id. Raven has a pretty good track record to date.

I don't think multiplayer is gonna be as good as Q3, etc., was, but i hope i am wrong.

I just can't help but think the Doom 3 engine is gonna wreck what could be a great game.

Sweet! Quake 4 is going to be good. I think I'll wait for the price to dip a bit before picking it up... maybe if I can last that long.

Hmm. What we need to do now is get review sites to sign a pledge: If they hype or overrate Q4 just because it's Id, just because it's a "Quake" title (like they did with D3), we get to shoot at their reviewer(s) with a nailgun. Was so disgusted to see D3 given glowing reviews on a site, then a few months later same site says things like "Of course Doom 3 was a dissappointment in many ways." WTF? That's not the tune you were singing when you were telling us to buy it.

(FWIW, I don't think D3 was awful, but it wasn't too good either)

I fell for the quick over hyped review of D3, they were 100% wrong. It took a month or so for people to give their honest non-fanboy opinions. I think I will wait at least a month for Q4. F.E.A.R looks like a winner though, the demo was great.

The only thing with FEAR is that you will need a dual core machine or at least a machine with Hyperthreading to get the most out of it. Not everyone has a X2. Im planning on getting or one of those dual core 939 opterons when they come out.

You don't exactly need dual core for FEAR, unless the finalized Rel80 drivers really make a difference. With the beta 8x.xx drivers, I only saw a 13-17% increase (3-7fps) going to dual core. If the finalized Rel80 drivers live up to the hype, and FEAR has further optimizations from the MP demo, then maybe dual core will really help out.

Dude, I've got an Athlon XP 2600+ mobile (@ 2.2GHz), 1GB of ram, and a 6800GT and FEAR plays pretty dang good at 1280x960 with high settings. A dual core system would be nice, but definitely not necessary.
