Man, I just don't understand why people think Q4 sux. OK, it's not setting any major new standards for FPS's and it is a bit linear (go here...flick this switch, go there...flick that switch), but this game is freaking gorgeous! It runs smooth as silk, there is loads of action and it's got plenty of great weapons along with some totally creepy enemies to use them on. Did I mention that it looks awesome to boot?
I just installed a X850XT card on my 3 year old box and I'm currently running at 1280x1024, 4xAA and all settings on high. Id and Raven hit a home run as far as I'm concerned and any real fan of Q2 or good shooters in general will love this game. You critics out there need to lighten up a bit and appreciate this game for what it is: a good looking, fierce and sometimes tense shooter that runs smooooth (even on less than cutting edge hardware). I played F.E.A.R too. It's a good game but jeeezus, it brings practically any mainstream machine to it's kness and the framerates at higher settings start to give me brain damage after playing for awhile.
Quake 4 is a very nice blend of action, visual quality and smooth gameplay. For those reasons I wish people would concentrate on what this game does well and not where it "could be better". I'm not looking for a flame war here but I thought that such a great game deserved a little support from someone in an apparent sea of detractors. Thanx.
