Quake Is Dead

The evolution of Quake took us from a revolutionary 3D game to a multiplayer marvel all within 2 years. Quake is the #1 best multiplayer game of the 90s, and now it has finally disappeared into the background of computer history. For me Quake was life. I never had a Voodoo video card or anything special, just a 28.8, P-133, and the Internet. I experimented with Quake when it first came out on the Internet and was disappointed, the lag was terrible. But over the next 6 months Quakeworld came out and all of a sudden you could play with 25 people in a single game and get great gameplay (even on a 28.8!) Time continued on and mods came out for Quake. These additions to Quake converted the game into a whole bunch of mini games and really were a lot of fun. (my favorites include TF, CTF, TWCTF, Quake Rally, Head Hunters, and Navy Seals) Needless to say I became an addicted Quake junkie and devoted around 40 hours a week to playing time. The thrill of the game never ceased due to the large variety and thousands of people all over the world playing simultaneously. As time went on I became a very skilled Quaker and could win any TWCTF game as long as my team and lag didn?t turn on me. The thrill of going online and kicking live peoples? sorry little butts was all the fun in the world. As the next year passed I only became better and better, but I finally reached my peak. Quake had become life, my dream, my obsession. Finally the saying "all good things must come to an end" came true. One day I woke up from my Quake dream and realized that I was virtually alone. Only a fraction of the people I had once known still played Quake. Out of a list that used to have 300 or so servers only 10 still existed. Quake had finally been played out. Quake2 had emerged, and I was very disappointed with the new replacement. I had to leave my beloved Quake with its friendly Clans and people who would recognize me from server to server. The whole life blood of Quake, its players, had finally left. I still enjoy Quake and love to play it is just not the same it used to be. This site is here to remember Quake and all the billions of man hours spent enjoying it by people all around the world.
