I hate Brother. Wireless never worked anyway. Only on Galaxy phones it does for some reason. And on Surface laptop.
A bit of a nitpick: My Brother laser printer is the best printer I have ever owned. I bought it during the pandemic and it is still working great. It is on the starter toner still, despite my family printing hundreds of pages. It is hooked up to my router and I have never had an issue printing from any device. No need to install bloated drivers either. It also can use third party toner, if needed.

Don’t get me started on the features it has either. Need to print hundreds of addresses on envelopes? Load the envelopes into the correct tray, choose desired settings, and print!

That's entirely possible. Even the same uarch that's clocked higher can score lower per clock in a memory bandwidth-bound scenario as additional clock cycles aren't doing anything.
It’s possibly also the SLC that was making the difference, like with A15 it has 32MB lmao. (A14, 16MB. M base chips? 8.)
As far as "IPC" goes,
Look, everyone knows it’s perf/GHz but it’s just a colloquial term now, it’s kinda similar to the “nanometer” process naming. Not entirely, because that’s a corporate name that can’t be replaced, whereas we can choose different descriptors for the actual “IPC” values (perf/GHz), but still. Most of us know by now that IPC isn’t really a proper term lol.
this is not massively different from what we have above.
But I agree we should only compare laptop vs laptop chips.
I mean I agree, but for absolute performance reasons for example people get sloppy and will shift from “huh interesting IPC” to “what do you mean, AMD and Intel are like 20% ahead on perf vs [insert mobile laptop core from like QC or speculated future one, and I’m sure they’ll do this when MediaTek/Nvidia have a laptop chip too etc]” and cite charts “8@3 this when it’s practically parity or a smaller margin on mobile. And mobile is most of the client market and a majority of the money as well. You cannot have your cake and eat it too on that, lmao. If you want to talk desktops-only — fine, but that’s less and less of the discourse thankfully and deservedly. It’s just a humongous disservice.

Note: nothingness, I don’t mean *you*. I am using it third person/generically.

It’s a pet peeve because neckbeards from the AMD/Intel caucus love playing fast with this.

This gives this (I hope I did not make errors...)

So Oryon is below x3 in int work/GHz.
Btw: X4 is about 2.32 for specInt but compiler differences and choices always make this stuff more of a range. Still, a 13.8% SpecInt boost in a year from the Geekerwan data below with the same choices in runs. Pretty sure the MediaTek one with only 1MB l2 performs well too, barely different perf/GHz in GB5 and 6 for ex vs 8 Gen 3’s X4.

Cellular is too expensive anyway. No one wants to worry about their bill going up while browsing the internet, hence the preference for WiFi.
It's hella cheap where I live, just that I haven't had an itch for WWAN on laptops, like ever.
Even less relevant now that you can deploy Starlink in the field.

Modems won QC the phone (less so now though, latest MTK modems seem more than competent iirc), but laptops, eh.

Doesn't apply to many European countries. I pay 17,99 € for unlimited calls, texts and unlimited data (max 200 Mbps LTE). Like I've said before, using your phone as a hot spot has been a thing since Symbian was the hottest smartphone platform.

The first batch of Snapdragon X laptops does not come Qualcomm's historical strength.

5G Cellular
Lmao no one cares about that until it’s cheaper on the margin and even then ultimately laptops are heavily WiFi oriented, also a tablet will have more appeal for 5G. J

That said I anticipate that [cost/performance curve shifting for 5G modems and frontends to some degree] and mid and low band 5G rolling out will plausibly make it a feature people might want, maybe semi-self driving cars someday make it appealing for weirdos who want to work before they get to work.

But that day is not today and it’d still be a limited market. And 5G isn’t going to replace WiFi + Fiber for most, would be a horrific waste do so and would lower performance and raise latency, power even if it’s better than ever.

That, but again, laptop usage model heavily gravitates towards placing the thing on a table somewhere, and places with tables tend to have WiFi in year 2011+13.

The new Surface Laptop apparently has a great touchpad. Even better than the Macbook Air, I hear...

lol it’s going to be so dang funny if 8g4 RDNA3.5’s us. I’d love it but also it’s kinda tragic for now for X Elite. Round 2 with a power tweak, more IPC (if GWIII is to be believed) and clocks + e cores would be legit, but honestly with Adreno I don’t know, they need some real changes and driver improvements.

Feels like even if QC gets all of the above in late 2025, Nvidia and MediaTek can slop 4/8 X925’s and 4 A725’s and some NV iGPU and it’ll be difficult to compete with that for games or even some local compute/AI (minimal stuff you can really run but still) stuff.

Too bad the XPS redesign took every bad thing from the bad MBPs and made it worse!
Garbage.
True.

XPS13 is somewhat okay, but the XPS14/16 are totally garbage. FHD LCD screen on a $1800 16" laptop?? No physical function keys (which is important for the kind of people who'd buy the XPS14/16). Measly TDP values (cripples the dGPU), and awful port selection.

Not even, the lack of real function row is death/10.

XPSes never had super high power stuff, but yeah, ports are scarce post redesign.
FHD LCD screen on a $1800 16" laptop??
It's pretty efficient but a poor panel either way in the age of 1800p OLEDs for $1300.
God bless SDC for trying to flood the market.
