if the above is true, then no wonder they only showed NPU tasks in Resolve. This is a very shady launch. Avoid till Gen 2

Too many issues. This is on par or worse than MTL launch.
I know everybody likes to jump the "hate on Qualcomm" train (they deserve it for the most part), but blaming them is just hitting on the easy target. If anything, this only shows how the entire ecosystem can not pull something smoothly, be it Microsoft, Intel/AMD/Qualcomm, or OEMs.
And if Strix Point has very few issues then the whole X Elite is going to be in more “trouble”.
I don't think so. Strix Point wasn't the huge leap that was promised and, given their tight lips on efficiency AFAICT, I'm not expecting it to be big on this front.

Or ARM?
(Rene Haas) I think when it when it comes to the compute platform, it’s more Arm with Microsoft, than it is arm with Qualcomm, if that makes sense

ARM the company is working on the WoA behind the scenes.

X Elite already has the PCIe lanes for dGPU, iirc.
You might be right.

I remember reading somewhere that dGPU support wouldn't be up till November, which is around when OEMs should receive the new X Elite variant (AFAIK, don't take my word for it). I figured it might be it.

Maybe a software update, I guess?

AMD has already made some gains on efficiency, I don’t know that they need a huge leap. Strix Point will be a fair bit more efficient than the Renoir and Cezanne that the M1 engaged.

It is very likely that Qualcomm will be the most efficient Windows laptop. Maybe equal or even surpass Apple. But will they be so far ahead of Lunar and Strix as to shake up the market? I’m not feeling that yet.

It wasn’t. GPU improvements are from extra cores and clock increase. Probably a bit of tweaks and Zen 5 is not groundbreaking for client.

No, that's LNL unless by 'efficiency' you mean cinememes@W.
Not impossible, but Intel passed on the opportunity to steal Qualcomm’s thunder with concrete battery life claims. They don’t seem sure yet. If they don’t start barking by the official launch, how likely is it that independent reviewers will say it’s because Intel wanted to surprise everyone with its dominance.

+15% in CB 2024 ( at 45 watts) than a M3 Pro is nothing groundbreaking
45W is not where it should be.
Excluding vectors. Zen 5 will be amazing there.
Zen5 is amazing at int stuff.
Cinememe is very antique SSE for the most part.
Not kinda it is.
Again, have you seen it?
I'm curious, what is your definition of efficiency?
mm25/teams 3x3 BL.

For that you need an exact same design with different SoCs which is pretty hard to pull off.
Plus, again, to make claims, Intel needs retail Hamoa on hands.
Retail Hamoa did not exist at Computex.

Yikes, had to cancel when my pre-order went from 'shipping June 17th' to 'shipping sometime mid-September'. Told them to just forget it.

Sounds like maybe it was a blessing in disguise.

Just get a lunar lake laptop and be happy with it if you need a laptop with great battery life this year.

Intel is the one to watch out this year in the laptop space.

That's also Intel's definition, apparently, and they say they're the best, so let's factor that in.

Well, the keynote claimed "Up to 40% lower SoC power", whatever that means, so I'm not holding my breath. It's an impressive feat for them, really. Just not enough for me to call it "efficiency king" till I have a machine on my hands.
