I'm gonna buy a tablet for school, and the choices here are HP, Lenovo(IBM), Fujitsu, and Toshiba. The bargain is the tosh, it has a stronger CPU (2.4Ghz C2D as opposed to 2.13/1.86), but I've been hearing lots of bad things about their durability, quality of service, and longevity.

What are you guys's thoughts on this? Assuming all brands are equal other than that the tosh has a stronger CPU, which tablet would you guys go for?

I had a Toshiba for a few years, an old 1.6. Was a daily driver and still going strong when I gave it back to the company six months ago, not a single hiccup. Tried several different laptops before deciding, and only the Sony had a better tactile feel on the keys...but the Sony came with less and cost more.

I've also played with Thinkpads, they're nice.

If I were in the market again, I'd certainly consider the Toshiba again. No bad things to hear from me.

I'm using a 3 year old Toshiba Qosmio laptop at the moment. I was fortunate to buy the 3 year extended warranty because within the first year I had problems with the hard drives. I got that replaced but it took a lot of phone calls. Earlier this year the mobo died. Again it took many frustrating calls to get the laptop fixed. But I was very fortunate that I had the extended warranty all the issues I had with the computer was covered. If I could do it all over again, I wouldn't have bought a Toshiba.

I own a Toshiba Satellite 1415-S105 .. Had it since about 2002, came as part of my Cisco CCNA class. It still works. Only things I have done to it are add additional memory (it only had 256MB and it now has 512MB) and swapped to a larger 100GB hard drive as the original 20GB unit was running out of room (but still working fine)

I recommended a friend get a Toshiba Satellite (admittedly I'm talking about laptops) in oh say 2001, he sent me an email in 2007 specifically asking which Toshiba to replace it with as he wanted something faster. His girlfriend got it when they split last year, so he got another Tosh.

Toshiba works well as is. Thus if your completely statisfy with the unit it is a Good choice.

However if you are the type that like Upgrades, ad-ons, and fiddling around, Toshiba (and Sony too) are Not your "cup of tea".

Their on line support is very "stingy", and unlike Dell and HP, they provide almost Nothing.

Personally, I don't like Toshiba, mainly because of their chasis design. Too much cheap glossy plastic, I'd rather have a good solid feel on a laptop, which is pretty important considering you can't change it out.

I haven't been a fan of Toshiba for a while now. We went through a bad spell with the brand at work and i've kinda been soured every since - dead pixels out of the box, cheap plastics and poor/loud cooling. Been using HP pretty steadily for the last while and have been quite happy. Just switched to Dell recently tho so time will tell how that plays out. The above refers more to business class gear tho, but still. I'm less discerning when it comes to consumer stuff as it's all generally made to a price point with flashy and/or gadget'y bits that draw people in.
