I know this has been posted, but I thought I'd throw in my support for this drive. I bought one through the buy.com deal, and I love it. The thing is incredibly fast. Not only is it one of the highest rated drives available, it's also just about the cheapest 7200 rpm 30 gig you can get.

As for the rebate, I haven't received it yet (only been about three weeks), but I did get a confirmation postcard from Quantum with a couple days of sending in my info. So that's always a good sign.

Drive comes in OEM packaging. That is, NOTHING but the drive in
a brown box. No cable, no installation disc, no instructions, no
mounting hardware. OEM all the way.

The drive is fast, yes. It's also (as I feel compelled to say
every time someone speaks its praises) VERY loud for a current
generation drive. It's BY-FAR the loudest of current generation
drives by Maxtor, IBM, Seagate, Western Digital and Quantum drives
that I've used.

Personally, I think the IBM 75GXP 30Gb is a much nicer drive:
It's a bit faster and a LOT quieter. But it's also more expensive
since there's no rebate attached...

btw, i bought the drive b4... for $138 after coupon... the drive was $155 at the time, but $161 in my basket... i also had a returning customer coupon in my basket that was supposedly pulled quickly... heh, so i didn't wanna risk losing it, so i bought it at that price w/ the coupon (as i have no new CC's).

Anyway, it's used as a storage drive, and well, it's been workin nicely heh, but don't forget to sign the rebate.. i think i forgot cause i reprinted.... gunna suck if i don't get the $30

I got this one last week, for 162, with &quot;free shipping&quot;. Finally, I installed it last night, and expected hearing lots of noise.

But, I hear nothing. During the format, the only thing I could hear were from those fans in my case. My CD-ROM is another story.

I don't know why sb. got a loud HD, maybe your PS fan and CPU fan are too quiet. Maybe I am just lucky these days, the Que 8432 I bought is a PX 8432, while other people got Samsung. But my Que is very loud when reading CDs.

I somewhat agree with WhiteMouse. The hard drive noise has become not as important as it used to.

One reason is that hard drives overall have become relatively more quiet compare to the old days.

Another reason is that computers have become so noisy because of all the fans you have to run to cool all the components. Fan noise from power supplies also used to be much more quiet when they had a fan on the bottom of the unit instead of on the back. Also, fan in 300W PS is much louder than one in 200W PS which used be enough. Hence, you do not hear much from your hard drives any more.

I just upgraded my system and got an Asus A7V with an AMD 800, and upgraded to a case with a 300w power supply. Honestly, my system is much quieter now than it was before, and I have just as many fans in it. The only difference I can account for in the noise level is the power supply. Perhaps it just depends on the brand of case/ps you get?

Itizlala - I changed my CC number in my buy.com account and used one of the new customer coupons and the order went through. I saw posted somewhere else on this board that they track you by the CC #. My order going through would seem to indicate this is true since it say on my order tracking that the coupon was redeemed. I would expect them to fix this sooner or later though.

Abrasion: Why is waiting for a $30 rebate from Quantum any different than waiting on a rebate from someone else? Have you had a bad experience getting a rebate from them?
