As long as we're relying on ancedotial evidence here.
I've had a Quantum fireball series 840MB drive last until this very second, running 2/47 being beat to hell in a small little server. Keep in mind I bought this drive 5 or so years ago when 840MB drives were HOT STUFF. Nary a peep from it, runs great (albeit feeling REALLY slow now. )
Of course, I've had 2 bigfoots fail. I've also have every single drive manfucturer fail on me, save IBM (yet). I do have an IBM 2GB SCSI disk that seems to be on it's way out though. Dying slowly..
I'm am EXTREMELY hard on hard drives, and have yet to find an IDE drive that can withstand the beating I give my workstation. That little quantum is the closest I've came.
so.. just offering some contradictory ancedotes.
