True that. Sonic Youth > *.

edit: they could be the best of 80's and 90's though. Daydream Nation came out in 1990, and is prolly one of the best albums put out during the 90s.

Well, you are right that is possibly the best album of a decade, but not the 90's. Daydream Nation came out in 1988. Awesome thing is it was recorded two weeks apart at the same studio as Public Enemy's "It takes a nation of millions to hold us back". Public Enemy's album was #1, and SY's #2 in that years Village Voice year end album list.

Actually I saw PE live at a smallish venue in 1989 - great show! I bet I could still recite that entire album word-for-word . . .

Yeah, I saw them in Vancouver, B.C. during the Fear Of A Black Planet tour. It was an amazing show.

Funny you should mention those - I saw Husker Du live for the first time when I was 12, and the Minutemen were my favorite band when I was a teenager. I cried when D Boon died. I actually hung out with them for a few hours when they passed through town, when I was 15 or so.

Fortunately, Minneapolis had one of the most active punk scenes in those days, so I was able to see Black Flag 3 times, the Dead Kennedys, Bad Brains, the Exploited, the early Butthole Surfers 3 times, the Minutemen 4 times, the Misfits, Samhain, early Soul Asylum, DOA, the Subhumans, the Dead Milkmen, the Meatmen, Naked Raygun at least 5 times, Big Black 4 times, Die Kreuzen 4 times, Urge Overkill, the Flaming Lips, and many, many other great shows. No wonder I had a persistent ringing in my ears in those days!

Among mainstream bands in the '80s, I really really like the Clash, the Police, Prince in all his iterations, New Order, the Pogues, and Los Lobos (OK, I guess they aren't all THAT mainstream, so I'll throw in early Metallica and Van Halen).

That's quite a list in that middle paragraph there.

Nah, their best years were in the 70's as well, with Infinity and Evolution ('78-'79) and the 3 LPs before they added Perry.

seemed to me that journey went from a band to the Steve Perry show after they added him.

perry definitely put his mark on journey.

I picture you as being Jack Black's character from High Fidelity.

"Now why would you sell it to me and not to him?"

"'Cause you're not a geek Lewis"

"You guys are snobs"

"No we're not"

"no seriously, you're totally elitist. you feel like the unappreciated scholars so you sh!t on the people who know less than you. which is everybody"

"yes"

I would assume it has something to do with being more soothing to the ears. Cannibal Corse doesn't exactly harmonize.

weren't they on the "Pretty in Pink" soundtrack?

If you leave, don't look back . . .
Hmmm, I don't remember if they were on it but the Psychedelic Furs were (they did the title song)

I found them to be unlistenable too. I never saw the appeal. But then I caught on to the fact a long time ago that my preferences were not universal.

I would consider Queen to be more of a '70's band I would go with Def Leppard.

They had one good song, and one mediocre song.

The correct answer to the thread is Def Leopard.

Queen is more of a 70's band, but I definitely agree that Freddie was the best rock lead man ever.

I can't believe someone even mentioned Roth - that guy is just horrible.
