If I would have known mom was going to destroy my relationship, then I would have just went away to college and ended it myself...

cheap living builds character.

I lived with a roommate in a 1-bedroom... it wasn't so bad. it was like a nicer dorm room with the option for one of us to crash on the couch when the other was in the bedroom with someone.

How do you afford rent in college housing?
[/LIST]

I don't rent college housing and instead commute.

If it were necessary, then I would find a house or apartment (on or off campus) with the best balance between location and price and split it with room-mates. If more money is needed then take out loans.

If you want something but don't want to pay for the cost or don't have money to pay for the cost, then forgoe that something or find a way to pay for it. Simple. It seems you are unwilling to do either.

Though I am graduating in 3 weeks - I figured I would insert my response here....

My parents paid for school entirely as long as I continued to do well. Thus, Freshman year I was on campus as a resident.

Sophomore year, I applied and got a job as an RA. At Virginia Tech, RA's room is completely paid for in addition to a stipend we are paid. Thus, from Sophomore year until now, my job has paid for my room as well as provided me a small salary. My parents pay the rest.

I'm going to miss how cheap it is. My job is in Chantilly after graduation and I will be living in Leesburg. $1300/Month + Utilities for a nice single bedroom apartment is what I am about to sign a lease on -UGH.

Ah - I was in Pritchard at the time. I'm actually an RA in WAJ right now (Actually a floor above where it happened). Sad times

I was working full time since my Sophomore year of college and started living off campus my Junior year. Living with roommates definitely helped, but let's just say I'm not exactly wondering when I'll eat my next meal. In addition, my grades weren't exactly suffering.

I took night classes and worked during the day. In the end, I graduated in 3.5 years and don't have too much in the way of student loans. I basically just took the max amount for Stafford loans each year. It's really all about time management and not being a complete moron. So good luck but we'll probably see a similar thread in another month or two.

Since everyone doesn't know here's the dealio, yo:

  • I have a 100% tuition waiver. (This means I don't pay for tuition, it's completely free)
  • I have my books paid for most probably. (I think my father decided to pay for my textbooks)
  • I have about $925/month as income without a job, and I'd like to stay without a job. The reason I have this income is because I get money for going to school full-time. (This is part of VA benefits, Chapter 35, dependents of survivors blahblah)
  • All good? Idk.

Jeez, how do you pull that off, you an illegal immigrant or something?

These threads wouldn't be nearly as entertaining if TridenT didn't, on cue, immediately give up on a task the second it becomes difficult. Have to look at a map to see where an apartment is in relation to campus? Too difficult, I give up! Have to get a job to make money? Impossible, why bother trying? You keep on spouting off about how others are so much more fortunate than you are, focusing on all the things they have or are able to do. While your attention is on their material success, you completely ignore their comments about actually having to work (imagine that) to get to their current positions. Honestly, whatever few "poor TridenT, he's had such a hard life growing up" comments you're getting now is going to quickly turn into "he deserves all the shit he's in because he's done nothing to dig himself out" if you keep up your self-pity posts. Then again, based off the last few threads you've posted, that's already happened.

Shens. No one will have sex with you.

Thank you.

I like how the OP just doesn't get that not a single person likes him simply because he's a useless whiner and completely unaware of it.

Most forumites bitch and moan at times to vent, TridenT makes a profession out of it.

Thank you, you say it with much more restraint than anyone else could manage.

And in before TridenT blames his parents or rap music.

Not going to read the whole thread- but I went to UW and found cheap apartments- either walk your ass a mile or so and live off campus, of just rent somewhere off one of the bus lines and take a bus on to campus each day- you can get cheap bus pass through UW so it's not an issue.
If you're lookign to live on campus through a campus run apartment, good luck.

*edit* one of the apt's was on 7th ave- not too far, tons of apts, most include parking

Most kids here are funded by their parents; it's nigh impossible for any college kid to pay his own way through college without loans (unless you're Azurik).

I got my undergrad degree in 2005, Aflac. Fortunately, and unfortunately, I'm not in college anymore
