Question about 1t vs 2t for mem

i have 2x 1gb sticks of corsair VS 3200

and was wondering what effect switching my bios setting from 2T --> 1T will have, also curious if it'll be stable doing this and is there any other timings id have to mess with to get it to be stable?

Again, im new to OC'ing and stuff, just trying to learn. Also if yall know of an extremely noob guide to OC'ing, id appreciate it. I would just do trial and error, but im poor college student... im sure many are in a similar situation

It should be stable if you switch from 2T to 1T, and there will be a small (<5%) real-world performance gain. Since you have the option, you might as well try it.

And I feel you on being a poor college student... There was a really good overclocking guide thread here a while back (by Zebo), let me see if I can find it.

Um, you mean a Sempron 2800+? Yes, they tend to overclock well. I have mine overclocked to 2.32 ghz(stock is 1.6 ghz) using the stock cooling, stock thermal pad, and at stock vcore. I am rather pleased.

A64 2800+ are typically Newcastle cores (although it could be an old clawhammer, I suppose). My Newcastle 2800+ does max 2.34Ghz stably with a bump in voltage to 1.585V (i.e. a 30% oc on 5.5% overvolt - not too bad). Some people report success taking their Newcastles much higher (e.g. 2.6+), but I'm always wary of high voltages. 2.2-2.4Ghz is fairly typical on reasonable voltages.

Note that you will have a speed penalty around 50MHz core speed when you move from 166 RAM to 133 RAM divider. A Sempron 3100 with 9x multiplier will do 2.3 to 2.4GHz at 166 RAM speed.

ah okay, I've heard of A64 2800+ procs hitting as high as 2.5-2.7 ghz on rare occasions. 2.4ghz should be doable.
