got pulled over a block from my work, was running 5 minutes late so I was over 13(63 in a 50) cop pulled me over and gave me a citation. Ive never had a ticket(im 18) and was wondering if there is any thing i can to get it off my record so i dont have to claim it on my insurance. Ive heard you can pay 15-25 extra, or something like that but am not sure.

again ive never had a ticket so i dont know if there is a way to get it off my record since its my first one.
please let me know if there are any procedures into taking it off.

Contest it, go to court, talk to the DA and try to work it out with them.

If they are in a good mood and you are nice to them, they may lower the offense to careless driving and take off the points. You may still have to pay the fine though.

The only way to get it off your record is to offer the cop money when you get pulled over. On the other hand, you can also go to jail for Bribery...

Go to traffic school, laugh inside your head at the silly videos and what not, and then no points.

take defensive driving - you pay ~$25, it gets taken off your record, insurance never knows about it, you can do it once a year - of course all of the above applies to TX, diff laws in diff states, but don't sweat it - I've gotten 3 similar tickets in my 7 years of driving and my record is completely spotless in eyes of insurance... otherwise it would be hard to afford insurance for a 300ZX TT

Put your flame suit on my friend, your gonna need it

But to answer, depends where you live. City and state.

In Wilmington NC you can take a driving class and have your ticvket reduced to a NON-moving ticket. i.e. no increase on your insurance.

If it's your first - depending on the state, you could probably goto to traffic school - then be on probation for a year. But yeah - talk to the DA and see what they recommend.

It's about time!! We've only had about 20 other speeding ticket threads this month, we're way under quota.

In Alabama, Fl and TN I've done well with going to court and pleading guilty. I've actually done first time offender in 3 three times in 3 years in TN. So far no points, just lots of wasted time and money.

Dress nicely in court so you don't look like another punk kid, be polite and plead guilty and explain to the judge that it's your first ticket and you should be cool.

Thx for the replies guys, I live in arkansas BTW.

I dont see why I would get flamed for asking a question about a speeding ticket but likes it gonna get to me that someone on a forum flamed me. How unpromising

But like I said thx for the replies guys as Im new to all of this and have never had one.

TIA

I got my first ticket ever in 14 years of driving this summer doing 50 in a 35. I'm more of a selective speeder and very good at spotting cops but that time I was careless and I had to speed up in order to pass a biker and a row of cars on my left.

I contested the ticket, went to court, and spent 4 hours there seeing people hauled off to jail for shoplifting, drunk driving, etc. I talked to the prosecutor and told him my story. He said he understood and would reduce it to careless driving with not points but a $100 fine for the ticket and court costs.

That was that.

I saw others get the same treatment for much worse than me like running red lights and speeding in front of cops. I think they allow it 2 times a year in my area until it gets stepped up to something that gets points.

The whole driving school thing depends on your jurisdiction. In MD, driving school is not an option to get out of the points, it's a requirement after your license gets revoked. As far as getting out of the points, it's almost always worthwhile to go to court, but not to give the judge some song and dance about your innocence. They've heard it all before. The fine, points, or both may be reduced, and (again, in MD) if the cop doesn't show, you're off the hook.

Even better than the "comedy" schools, in many states, you can do traffic school online. Ask for a list of approved online traffic schools at your local courthouse, or Google it for your state.

You'll still have to pay the ticket and the traffic school, but it will keep the points off your driving record.

Does that mean you were not 'speeding in front of cops' when you got your ticket?

my sister went to the DA when she got her first speeding ticket, she paid "court costs" (aka bribery, since she didnt actually have to go to court) and got a "prayer for mercy" or some such and let her be, no points, no nothing
