I had this happen on my first maching (a prebuilt). My monitor started turning solid green, so bad at times that all I could see on my monitor was a solid green block and couldn't see what was behind it. It was under an extended warranty (luckily) so I just got the monitor replaced. New monitor started doing the same thing within a month or two of getting it. So I figured (and the tech support agreed) that somehow the video card (which was integrated) was killing the monitor. I got another monitor to replace it and bought a new video card and it lasted for another 3 years. Fast forward 6 years. In February/March of 2002 I started building my own system. I put a PNY GeForce 3 in my machine and bought a Viewsonic A90f. Worked great. Unfortunately two nights ago my monitor became yellow tinted, once for a couple of seconds, the next time for a couple of minutes. I tried deguassing it and it didn't help. I tried shutting the computer off. The monitor still had a yellow tint to the white text before the monitor powered itself off due to lack of signal. I checked the cable and everything is tight with no bent pins on the cable. I'm not overclocking anything and I have ok airflow for cooling. I'm thinking somehow it happened again. I have an extended service agreement with Frys (who I bought the monitor from) and they said just bring it in and they will test it and we will go from there. I'm thinking I will get a new video card too, before I get the new monitor and just put the monitor and the video card on/in at the same time. I just wanted to ask everyone here if they had heard of anything like this happening before and if it makes sense that the video card could kill the monitor. Any comments about this or Fry's extended service agreement would be greatly appreciated.
