PC-1 with two hard drives.
PC-2 with one hard drive and one SSD.
I booted PC-1 with Acronis in the CD/DVD drive and after a bit acronis opened and showed the two hard drives.
I then booted PC-2 with Acronis in the CD/DVD Drive. Acronis began to display its early DOS activity and then quit. Anyone know why?

Acronis is not yet ready to deal with SSDs. That will be in forthcoming TI 2011.

I have an SSD (fast!) with win 7 and Acronis 2009. I decided to skip the 2010 version as it seemed very buggy. I use Acronis to both image the drive with the idea that worst case, I have to restore to a hard disk. I've also done disk clone of the SSD to a 2.5in drive via eSATA and/or USB, as a backup. I did restore to SSD from a clone image once, and it worked OK.

My reading is that Acronis simply needs to adhere to the partition boundary conventions for SSDs. Seemingly a simple problem.

I wonder if I trust the built-in Windows 7 disk image utility? I've run it a few times, but never tried a recovery with it.

The bootable Rescue CD with TI 2010, build 7046, is not buggy. And, yes, the issue is partition boundaries, etc. That will be addressed in TI1022, currently in Beta. One should not have to do these things manually.

I wonder when TI 2011 ships?

I made the mistake of putting a beta next-version of TrueImage on my PC. Reverting to the prior version was very difficult and there was no tool to do so.

I tried to recover some files today from an acronis true image system running windows 7 today. It failed. This was booting from the cd. It would load fine. I could verify the image was intact and not corrupt and could browse the image. Trying to restore the image though it would hang the system every time with no errors. What a waste of money that was.

This was a system with a regular hard drive. I don't think it is ready for windows 7.
I gave acronis a go for a family member but I will be pulling that off and getting them a copy of what I use, macrium reflect.

I also have a copy of o&o coming , it supports SSD too

That is why you install test software in a VM. If the software causes problems, delete the VM. Viola no more problem. Either that or virtualize the app if it supports it.

VM - yes, I've used Sun's virtual box. Nice. Don't know if they have a Win 7 home version.

Acronis True Image 2009 and earlier have worked well for me. Used several times. I'm just waiting for 2011 to come out, I guess, as 2010 seems to be roadkill.

Acronis Disk Director is a tool I've used for partition work. They were going to drop it all together as a product. I see the new version, tried the beta, but don't know if it now or will be Win 7 + SSD compatible. That's a key issue.

Yeah don't use 2010 with windows 7 unless you want trouble.
They need to remove win7 from the supported OS list till they get it fixed.
2009 worked fine.
