Question about Adobe Premiere CS4

Hi guys, i got a question,

i just bought myself a full HD video camera and i am using Adobe Premiere CS4. however when i tried to edit it, why my computer seems so slow? is there any problems that i have to fix so that i could use my Adobe Premiere with ease? since when i edit the movie, my Premiere seems o be working so slow.

this is the list of my hardware:

1. Video Camera (Canon EOS 5D mark II)
2. Adobe Premiere CS4
3. VGA: Nvidia 9800 GT, 512 MB
4. RAM: 6GB
5. HDD: 1TB
6. Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU, Q6700 @ 2.66GHz

I believe that camera takes video in an AVCHD format. Keep in mind those formats are very processor intensive and file sizes can be quite large.

Are you copying the file to your HD before you edit them? Reading off the camera can slow things down dramatically since you're reading the files from the camera via USB and that can be very very slow.

One problem that jumps out at me from your system specs is the HD. Not all HD's are created equal. If you did transfer the video to the HD, it might be a slower performing HD and not keeping up with the demands of Premiere.

Switch your quality to draft. Located in the preview monitor towards the bottom right. This way you'll be able to preview everything without slowing your system down. The quality may suck but you can switch back to the highest quality after you're done with your edits and read to output your file.

Transferring full HD with usb is not going to be quick I would hope it has the option for firewire which is better suited for HD video. USB looks comparable on paper but the difference is in the protocol they use.
I'm an Avid user so I can't really say what could be causing premiere to run slow. I would guess as Akugami said that it is the hard drive not keeping up.
What HD resolutions are you using ?
