Question about annoying Ads

So lately I've noticed that many of the articles I read have random bits hyperlinked. I don't mean here click this to read more, or see a picture either. It'll be a hyperlink in the text, and if I mouse over it accidentally it'll pop up a 2inchx2inch or so square box with some type of advertisement or link in it. Is this just common on websites now, or is there some type of malware working in the background that I can't find with Spybot, Adaware, and AVG combined? Also keeping in mind that this copy of Windows is less than 12 hours old. Everyone dealing with this, or is there something I can do to remedy it?

They are embedded in the web page and are becoming more and more common. The best way to be free of them is use Firefox with Ad Blocker Plus or some other browser with an ad blocker. I think disabling Java works too but that handicaps normal browsing. Sometimes there is a button on the pop-up that will let you disable them, but it doesn't always work and when it does it disables them for that web site only. I hate these things with a passion and they are the main reason I don't use IE anymore.

I use IE Pro (google it). It's an add-on for IE that allows you to block flash ads along w/ regular ads.

Already using Firefox Gonad, I'll check out Ad Blocker Plus. Thanks for the info.
