I have a new set of Altec lansing ADA885's coming soon, do they need to be burned in? if so how do i do that? Secondly, does anyone know if the Herculese game theater XP suffers from the quad mode bass reduction problem, like the live cards do?
That is entirely not true when it comes to speakers (I am not going to get into the other stuff since its a debate noone can win). Speakers have mechanical parts (moving parts) that need to be "broken in". If you push them too hard at first they are far more likely to blow and be more likely to come apart later in their life.
Just don't turn them up too loud at first. Hardcore people recommend putting on a sine wave for 24 hours. More realistically just leave on some music or whatever overnight.
Having said all that, I need to make a comment to clarify/classify what I just said. This is in regards to home theater/audiophile speakers. Speakers that cost thousands of dollars. Computer speakers I wouldn't worry about at all. The reduction in quality of playback and lifetime expectancy is going to be minimal in speakers that have that little quality to begin with. Also I doubt you have the power to blow out the drivers in them anyway.
