What do you guys think about computer learning centers such as the Cittone Institute? My current situation is, I just started school at a community college and I?m now taking summer courses to make up for remedials, so I can start fresh in the fall. I heard an ad on the radio and decided to stop by Cittone. I spoke with a rep, told him I wanted to be a network admin, and he gave me the run down. I. He basically told me in 30 weeks I will be A+, Network+, MCSA certified and in about month after I graduate; should have no problem finding a entry-level job. Everything sounded good but its mad expensive. I just want to know if these schools really do help or if I?m better of learning on my own?

thanks!

Why not just do it on your own?

Becuase IF i do it on my own, it will be just reading. The school offers teaching+hands on. i mean just reading the manual doesn't mean you can drive the car.

That is why you buy a cheap older PC and toy around with it.

I decided to try that myself after blowing out my knee as a paramedic. The school I went to was the biggest bunch of liars and cheats that I have ever met. If you do decide to go ahead with this make sure the school is a good school. I was duped. I am currently in litigation for my education costs as well as their investigation with the secondary school board.

I am all in favor of direct education like this but be careful.

Nothing against certificates per say, but they are not even close to giving you the same level of marketability as college degree. If you're going to spend a ton of money, you should do so on a college degree. At least get an associates for now and then go part time to get a bachelors while you work a job as well. Certificates can only take you so far, and if you decide you want to change careers or get more training you can build on your college credit and get another degree. A certificate is almost always in one specific area and will help you only in it's related field whereas a degree can make you desirable to an employer even if you are applying for a job outside the scope of your degree. Don't get me wrong, having certificates is a good thing, but they are better when earned on top of a degree to enhance your marketability. They just are not valuable enough to most employers to be used in place of a degree except in an entry level (i.e. low paying) job with very little chances to move up the ladder. A degree gives you much more promotion with almost all employers. Good luck in whatever you choose.</FONT>

All I can do is laugh, I have those exact 3 certs and I don't have no stinky entry level or any level job.

Note: My not having a job might also have to due that I'm just under 16 too. Either way, you might as well save the money and get the certs yourself.

I just started school on monday at Devry university, formally know as Devry institute. They claim to a 92% job placement and I have heard lots of good things about them. I already took my A+ class, still need to take my software exam. But at devry I should have a BA in a few years if I can handle the load while working.

Like was said, degrees are better then certs. But neither means you'll get a job.
