Say it you have a CPU and its FSB runs at 1333MHz but your motherboard only runs at 800Mhz you can still use it can?t you , you just won?t get the maximum performance that you should be and would that be the same affect with your DDR2 Ram ??

Your motherboard isn't running at 800mhz, your RAM is.

A typical intel motherboard will have the CPU running at 1066, 1333 or 1600. The ram running at 533, 677, or 800. Other things like Hard drive, video card, etc all have their own mhz speed as well.
What you should do is check the CPU speed of the motherboard.

If the socket is correct, and the bios has been updated to support it, you can insert a higher speed CPU and just have it work at a slower spped. (aka, if you put a 3ghz 1600mhz CPU in a 1066mhz socket it will work below the 3ghz mark.)
But again, check the motherboard's compatibility list.

Uh.. there are plenty of socket 775 processors that have default FSB of 800, my Celeron 420 is one example.

But yes, motherboard manufacturer's support page should have a list of supported processors. If the chipset is older, it may still support newer processors after a BIOS update. RAM shouldn't have any problems as long as it's not some special overclocking RAM that only works with higher-than-standard voltages. I wouldn't try using slower than processor FSB/2 rated RAM though.. like, for example, 533 DDR2 and 1333 FSB CPU.

Yeah thats true cause my motherboard has a socket 775 and the FSB is 1066/800/533Mhz as you can see from my specs i am running Core2Duo E6600 1066Mhz but fot the time been i want to put in a Core2Duo E8200 1333MHz till i get a new motherboard to match it ... So do you think that would be fine ..?

So we have has 150 people view this topic and taltamir did not know what he was talking about ? thx for your advice nevbie ? So the rest of you have no idea hey ? well most of you must just talk shit on here then, I know all of us cannot know everything about computers ? I did not think my last question was so hard to answer, especially being in a forum like this..

Can anyone guide me to a forum were some computer nuts know what they are talking about ?

the answer was not yes or no, it was if. without knowing which motherboard you have (manufacturer and model), it's difficult to know the answer. luckily you are able to browse the internet, and seek for the web site of your motherboard manufacturer. you may find a list of supported processors for your motherboard model in that web site. if it lists E8200 for your BIOS version or older, everything is ok. if it lists E8200 for a newer BIOS version, then you might want to update your BIOS first.

it is also possible that you will fail in finding the desired information for whatever reason. in that case we will be happy to help you if you provide us with details of your failure.

You are asking about whether or not your motherboard will support a CPU, but you don't bother to tell anyone what motherboard you have. Chances are, that putting a 1333mhz FSB CPU in a motherboard that doesn't support 1333mhz FSB isn't going to work. If you put the 1333mhz FSB CPU on already, and it's running at 800mhz FSB, then you will lose A LOT of performance. CPU speed = cpu multiplier * FSB. Bios isn't going to have CPU support for a processor that runs with a FSB that the motherboard doesn't support. That doesn't neccessarily mean it won't work at all, so it's up to you if you want to try, but it has the potential of damaging the cpu and/or the motherboard if it's not supported.(for example, if it doesn't recognize the CPU, it might give it a high voltage, or even damage the motherboard. I had that happen when I tried a 533mhz FSB P4 in a 400mhz FSB motherboard). Of course you'll probably just ignore my advice since people on this forum don't know what they are talking about, and you have been nothing but rude, so I don't know why I even bothered to answer you.
