I was just thinking about this and I wanted to know what everyone here thought. As far as time frame, let it be relatively recent, say within the past six months (just picked something randomly honest--if you have an opinion about a different time frame, by all means).

And FYI, this is nothing official or anything like that. Just wondering. (And no I haven't had any limoncello either. )

first vote
and i voted 'yes'

honest, the atmosphere has really changed.
i know i can be/am a pain in the arse at times, but there is no harm meant.
however, after the episode a couple of months ago. well.

but, in my own personal opinion, most of the people i was talking to when i first joined aren't here any more

Voted. I am not so sure. Has probably to do with the fact that I do have less time to visit and to post.
It is not as vivacious as before. It is as polite and as well meaning as before though, but there is less activity, I think.

It seems like the OT threads except for the BBQ thread have died off mainly. Always the same handful of people posting. though I have only been here for a year or so folding with you guys.

Yep!

Will add more later. Right now, watching the "Twins" play (Baseball) and beer is.......(took a sip).....Good.

Been a while since I wrote this and I think it's time I add my personal view. At the time, I was watching baseball and having a couple of beers with a few friends. During this time since I placed this comment, I really didn't give this much thought, hence the beers.

Anyway, I have read the opinions of all the members in here and most have somewhat the same conclusion. TIME. Is our forum boring? Or is or forum not as visited as much as it once was. Are all of us growing older and not as interested as we were not to long ago? I do not have a Face book page or a MySpace page or any thing like that as I really have no interest, probably due to my age (46). I do have an interest in this forum though. It isn't just for my stats. I come in here to learn and enjoy the company of helpful individuals that share the same interest as I do. Only problem is, we are slowly pulling ourselves away due to time. We have a lot of things to do besides staring into a monitor reading and writing on the comments of the day. Still I like taking that time as it relaxes me and it lets me ease my mind from the stressful day that I do have at work. I find that I can help others as others have helped me. It is satisfying. I find that laugh from a joke or a funny comment that many of you make enlightening. Sure I can get it from my friends and family but here, it's quiet and sometimes its very much needed.

I don't really think this forum will go away anytime soon. What I do think is that it will start picking up again and new members will join and some of us old timers ( take it for what is worth ) will have the know how and most likely learn a thing or two as well as teaching the noobs. Yes, I was one once too........and so were you.

Definitely, but it's been longer than 6 months.
To be honest, the forums started quieting down after SETI classic was over. The first page used to be covered with SETI threads... ODs racings stats & commentaries, Smoke & Hellburners threads, the occasional MTRs, INCOMING! threads, etc.

As was said, it's still a friendly place, just quieter these days.

Took the words right out of my mouth!

But yes it's quieter, & has been getting so over the past 3yrs or so, I just hope it doesn't keep getting quieter, although ironically I'm visiting forums less in general (still mostly here when I do though ).

SETI chat is virtually dead now , DPAD remains at a low level but hanging in there, F@H has picked up nicely though .

I haven't been around long enough to notice it, although Gleem mentioned it in passing once in a PM right after I started.

Even on the TAS site the posts are very slow, its been like this since i started but folks on there have high enough counts that I figure it must have been more active once.

I voted Not Really (I think...) because I've not noticed the change.

Definitely???..

I blame the moderators???????..
They were once some of our biggest blabbers????..and now they are
prisoners in the ivory tower?????.and have taken a vow of silence?????..
You will notice I refrain from naming names?????..

Seriously, things change, they always do, whether for good or ill. But this is still my first stop, and of course maybe the stats sites, a few hundred times a day. (but I am getting better)

The seti excitement was like a deep well of interesting events and people that has now been disbursed into a big but shallow lake. We are spread thin over many projects or taken other paths altogether.

Pokey stops talking .......................

I've posted in TAS! (Once, but I've only been there for one month and noticed all threads are like a year old now).

I noticed a big change with the SETI crowd, but then even a bigger one with BOINC.
Every team watered down and transient.

I'm figuring what we see now is just what DC and TeAm AnandTech have become.

Clueless oaf that i am i wasn't aware of these.

Your "watered down" comments are right on though. With so many projects now it's hard to get a meaningful discussion going sometimes about a certain project.

There is a decided change to the atmosphere on the DC Forum. I found myself having second thoughts about my post about my 2nd exe on the Quaker Catcher thread and had to ask FMC if I had stepped over the line. That was the first time in my three years here that I felt I had to be concerned about what I had posted.

I have a tendency to make some off-the-wall comments in different threads and I don't feel comfortable doing that if I have to self-edit. The spontaneity is destroyed.

I think some of this is the result of everyone's concerns over the financial crisis, we have become uptight. Job, school, power bills, become larger concerns.

I've noticed this a lot. There is no way to have a great discussion because number of crunchers on any given topic are so few. Exceptions being the TAS project, SETI, Rosetta and F@H. We need to figure a way to keep discussions going across multiple projects, thats part of why I like the couple cross project milestones Stats threads I've posted. Its a way for people who are crunching solo on a bunch of stuff to join together some. Maybe if they were bi-weekly we could have some "i'm going to pass you!" type conversations.

My first thought: why are you posting exe files anyways? Luckily Assimilator1 helped me understand whats going on. I'm so lost sometimes.

I don't know, I don't think it's changed all that much in six months.

Another change I saw was an attitude that posting anything but "thanks for the stats" was treated like hijacking (so I quit that project).... what's up with that?

I also see a lot of "primadonna syndrome" with members picking and choosing who is L337 enough to talk to and limiting their communications to PMs rather than participating in the forum as a whole.

I was going to try to emulate you (cause I've really enjoyed all those off-the-wall comments so much) by coming up with something about "stick-to-the-ceiling", but I can't come up with anything.

I would say maybe. It has got quieter - over the last few months. Posts stay on the front page for ages. As others have said, same people and that is not to say I post a lot - keep to myself except when I have a question to ask from the experiance in this forum (to which I often get some damn good help - thanks).

Maybe the competitive spirit has gone? Too busy? Many things.

Hmmm. Interesting. I started thinking, some time ago, that I was posting too much, and have cut down on posting as much. I get to the point of clicking "submit", and then just close the window.

A couple events happened that got me thinking about this, and it is interesting reading everyone's responses. It wasn't was I thought it was--when the poll was getting clickys but there were no replies in the thread, I took it as being rather negative. But I see now more what people meant.

I check the DC forum almost every day, I just don't post much anymore. Work and RL keep me pretty busy, I'm not really active in a DC project. A lot of the forum members who I used to talk with don't visit, and it's a younger, different crowd, and they don't get my jokes.

It has nothing to do with being a mod, either. Especially in this forum, where we still follow a certain decorum, are pretty much self moderating.

There at times does seem to be a certain clique or sub-group that ignores posts except by others in that subgroup.

TA has always been an inclusive group, no matter your background, country, belief system, you are welcome here. Let's make sure that tradition continues.

I've not visited the other forums, TAS? As I've always felt that this is my home base.

I do miss the days of individual and TeAm races, competitions with other teams, the friendly trash talking during the races. The Red Rascal Rider has been parked in the garage for a long time now.

Even with the changes, I will say that Team Anandtech continues to kick butt in a lot of DC projects, and that continues to make me proud of this TeAm!
