Question about Dell 2001FP LCD

Just got it today and i have a few questions.

1. Is there any way to adjust the contrast when you use the DVI connection?

2. Having played a few FPS games so far such as BF1942, Unreal, etc. i have noticed that the screen becomes quite blurry and out of focus when you move the mouse to look around. Is this normal at first? It is very irritating on the eyes. When the screen is stationary, the graphics are superb. (using a P4 3Ghz, 1GB Ram, Radeon 9800 Pro) The resolution is set to 1600x1200 and AA and AF are turned all the way up. Anyone else experience this? It is almost impossible to play like this.

3. Is there any utility to help configure this monitor?

Thanks.

1) You should be able to adjust the Contrast using the "Display Properties".
2) I am suprised that BF1942 plays at 1600 x 1200 with AA and AF set to max. I have the same system specs as you and although I don't have BF1942 installed so I cannot confirm that either way. Mind you I can't do 1600 x 1200 on my Hitachi CML174SXWB. With a 16ms response time it should be acceptable I would have thought.
3) There are a number of utils to setup the brightness etc. Do a search in this forum as it has been discussed a number of times with a few links to what your after. Here is an online one that may start you off.

What do you mean by "Display Properties"? Do you mean on the LCD itself? If so, you can only change the Brightness...the Contrast is greyed out. If you mean by right-clicking on the desktop and going to properties, i did not find anything there either.

Thanks for the online tool. That's great!

Download the 3.9 or 3.10 ATi drivers.

Go to display properties, settings, then advanced, find the color tab, and adjust at will.

Hmmm, Maybe you got a bad display, I run COD, Serioussam demo, and MOHAA all at 1600/1200 and I see No ghosting at all on mine....I am running it on an FX5900 Ultra, in DVI as well.

Ok, i think i see the problem.

Under the advanced settings, if i go under SMARTGART teh AGP sepeed is set to off and Fast Write is also set to off. Even if i manually change this to 4x/8x and "On", it reset back to off after i reboot. Which suggests that i'm putting it in a state that is unstable, hwoever, i have lowered the graphic settings all the way to almost nothing and it still won't let me turn AGP on.

Anybody know why? I'm not sure if it's a ghosting problem per se. It actually seems more like it blurr's when you move around. Almost out of focus.

Oh and i'm using the 3.10 ATI drivers.

Also there are two entries under Display Adapters in Device manger:

Radeon 9800 Pro
Radeon 9800 Pro - Secondary

The first for AGP and the second for PCI. Is this normal?

I attempted to uninstall and reinstall the 3.10 drivers but after i uninstall, Windows XP automatically reinstalls everything after it restarts, before i have a chance to do anything.

Good morning As to the 8x issue, maybe a setting in bios.

"Radeon 9800 Pro
Radeon 9800 Pro - Secondary" This is normal, as it is a Dual Head card, most of the new cards all do this.

"I attempted to uninstall and reinstall the 3.10 drivers but after i uninstall, Windows XP automatically reinstalls everything after it restarts, before i have a chance to do anything."
I had the same thing here, windows will actually DL the newest drivers off the web, I unplugged my net work cable when that happens and windows is forced to do what its told
You may check to see that your monitor is running within spec as well.

Ok, i managed to completely uninstall and reinstall the drivers, but it didn't fix the problem. There is still severe ghosting in games like BF1942. Anyone else have this problem with the 2001FP? I was under the impression this was not supposed to be a problem with this particular LCD.
