Question about Dual Rail Power Supply

I just purchased a 7900GS video card and a 550w dual rail power supply. I thought I had read at one time that the advantage of a dual rail psu was that one rail dedicated to video and the other to the rest of the system. That may be wrong, not sure.

I was planning to use the 6pin plug that connects directly to the video card, then connect my other hardware to the two strands of 4pin plugs. Do I need to do anything special, or avoid anything in perticular? I have two SATA hard drives, floppy, DVDRW and one 80mm fan. Thanks!

Nope nothing special to do or avoid. Just hook it up. The 6-pin plug is there to use, not avoid

Thanks. I was planning on using the 6pin plug. I didn't know if I had to do some manual type hook up with the two different strands of plugs to make sure I didn't somehow split one rail and the video card not getting what it needs.

So im basically new to this dual 12v thing. if a psu had dual 12v, how many connectors and such will the second video card dedicated line have?

The mfr's web site should have a diagram showing which connectors are on which rail. Generally on dual rail you'll have CPU and PCI express on one rail and the rest of the system on the other.
